I think it's some kid of cutting edge punkygothyDwarfy thing. Something like a modern kid dyeing their hair blue.

It's funnny, each of those brothers has a totally different look: Ori the geek with his monky scribey bowl cut, Dori with his classic (and somewhat fussy) braids, and then there's Nori... his mom is probably shaking her head...
