No one can have their long hair in the same shape all the time

In the real world, true. But movie continuity depends on everything, makeup, hair, costume, etc all looking exactly alike in order to match shots taken days, weeks, months, even years apart...

also, *ALL* of the actors in LOTR and in The Hobbit are wearing wigs. No natural hair on display at all.

I was one who didn't really like the presence of Frodo in The Hobbit, it took me out of the movie and for no good reason I can see...
