Sounds so bad. :(

Third hobbit movie feels... thin. Sort of stretched, like... butter scraped over too much bread.

I think it's meant to sound bad... [In reply to] Can't Post

The Goblin King can hardly be expected to have the finest singing voice.

... and I thought it suited his diva-like personality. He seems to be in his own world when he sings that song, almost like how Gollum sings the "Fish Song" in TTT.

It's not meant to sound beautiful. It's meant to add another dimension to the character. Maybe if you see it that way, you'll find it more... listenable... Smile

He's singing about killing them... [In reply to] Can't Post

It's not usually a subject that requires a beautiful voice. The discord in his voice actually makes it scarier than if he sang it straight. It's the same way composers uses discord in music to make a scene scarier in a horror movie (screeching violins, etc).

It is the point... [In reply to] Can't Post

Nowhere in Tolkien's works is it stated that Goblins were blessed with beautiful singing voices Wink

I loved this part! [In reply to] Can't Post

And it's still more in key than Eowyn at Theodred's funeral.

The Goblin King was a spectacular, bombadillian character. [In reply to] Can't Post

A pity they killed him. I wish I could see him stumbling around the tunnels singing his nonsense.

I recall in one interview... [In reply to] Can't Post

...where Jackson mentions that there would be more of the Goblin King in the extended edition. I look forward to it, myself :)

(there's also supposed to be a scene between Gandalf and Bilbo as a child).

I love everything about the Great Goblin... [In reply to] Can't Post

until his final words. Why would he make a cheap gag before dying?

Also, at no point does he look anywhere near this scary in the actual film:

The Hobbit is not an opera. [In reply to] Can't Post

Maybe Peter should have turned the Goblin King scene into a big Buzby Berkly number like the bowling scene in The Big Lebowski. You know dancing Goblins and all that stuff...maybe some giant fruit!

love for the goblin king [In reply to] Can't Post

I LOVE the song he sings.when I heard it on first viewing I was convinced that some of the words were from the song the goblins sing in the book- its a long time since I read it cover to cover-but obviously its nothing like it,but no worse for it.its brilliant and is a permanant fixture in our house at the moment along with 'bring out the mangler....bring out the bone breaker!' :-) its done in the correct tone and Barry humphries plays the part spot on.there's some skilled character acting going on there, just take notice.enjoy what's there not what you thought it should have been :-)
