Moria orcs and Lothlórien Can't Post

I'm sure most are familiar with images such as this one:

Why didn't they film the battle/skirmish at Lórien?

Was it a full on battle or just a skirmish?

Here's some interesting videos:

since there are photos of it... [In reply to] Can't Post

I presume it was filmed.

The question is more: why was it cut?

I think it was a skirmish with the Fellowship beset by orcs and the Lorien Elves showing up to join the fight.

One reason for leaving this out [In reply to] Can't Post

might be that we are often told that orcs avoid sunlight - and I think that would go double for Moria orcs - and this is obviously during daylight hours.
Plus, there had already been plenty of action in Moria; they may have felt that it was unnecessary. Better to change gears and focus on the mystery of Lothlorien.

But looking at their armour, and their helmets, I doubt they're exposed to much sunlight. That pesky first Orc blows my theory out the water though. Wink

thank you for that link [In reply to] Can't Post

to the deleted scenes video. Some there it's easy to see why the bit was cut.

Compositing? [In reply to] Can't Post

This is a production still shot, so if it didn't make the cut early on, it probably had not gone through any digital grading. They might have shot it in full sunlight, but would have changed the environment to evening or even dead of night if they wanted to.

That whole Aragorn vs. Sauron idea is laughable [In reply to] Can't Post

So glad they turned it into a troll.

It was filmed [In reply to] Can't Post

But didn't PJ say that they scrapped it in favor of the suspenseful & mysterious entrance into Lothlorien? I that being discussed somewhere in the EEs.

There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple, too.
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say coo-coo (coo-coo, coo-coo).
