I was so emotional on my first viewing of The Hobbit! [In reply to] Can't Post

My first introduction to Tolkien was just over 12 years ago when FotR released and ever since I've adored LotR books and films. It's a massive part of my life and even watching the vlogs I was getting emotional (I think visiting NZ's North Island last year contributed to this greatly).

Onto the film and how it made me feel.

I welled up at the beginning, seeing the black screen with the golden 'Metro Goldwyn Mayer and New Line Cinema', 'Wignut Films' and then the 'The Hobbit'. I can't explain why it made me fill up, but it was nostalgic, and such a perfect way to open a film prequelising (Is that even a word? xD) LotR.
I loved the opening sequences with Ian Holm & Elijah Wood as Bilbo/Frodo, I think it was such a lovely way to tie in the two trilogies. Having The Hobbit start with the first moments of the day and FotR start off with the remaining of the same day was a perfect way to fit in. I can image Bilbo sitting there on the day of his 111th Birthday reminiscing about his journey to Erebor with Thorin & Company, and then you go onto FotR and continue with the rest of the story.

As for the rest of the movie (I'm not going to go into all my feels about it) it was, imho, a brilliant homage to Tolkien. Readers of the books will have noticed the little nods to the book - Blunt the knives, The invention of golf, out of the frying pan, and the other phrases/moments and I think it was such a nice way to go about it. Ok, so they changed some things and I can understand why. I came out of the cinema thoroughly impressed and have returned to see it another four times, still completely enjoying it =)
