post prpduction 48 fps Can't Post

havnt heard much either in the vlogs or other sources regarding the PP on the hobbit in regards to working at 48fps, either in the animation departments(2x thework right?) trackers/matte painters/ editers etc.

u=id be interested to hear those thoughts and how much harder it is or the issues caused by 2x the framerate. anyone got any sources/articles etc?

though someone did mention (Joe Leterri maybe?) that it actually helps the animators as they have twice the number of frames to get a movement or expression across. Sorry, no link. Perhaps it was in that 13 minute tv special from Belgium? Not sure.

is render time. It doesn't create more work for the editors or sound engineers...just longer renders. But I'd be interested to here what the animators have to say about it.

According to PJ in one of his interviews. Twice the frame rate plus 2 separate images being filmed on 2 cameras for 3D.

He was speaking in the context of other directors potentially filming at even higher frame rates (60, 120, etc) and basically had the opinion that for right now the post production would almost be too difficult to go beyond 48 fps (at least when filming 3D).

as part of the difficulty is putting motion blur in the right places and trying to match it to live action. With 48fps there's much less blur, so less work.
(This from a blog but cannot recall which one.)

I believe that it is not correct to infer that 48 fps always has half the motion blur that 24 fps has. Thatís because you have to take into account shutter speed and the shutter angle. This was shot with a 270-degree shutter angle at 48 fps, rather than a 180-degree shutter angle at 24 fps. So the arithmetic is a little bit fancier. I believe that I also read that the ISO wasnít very fast, either, shot this way.
