Good for NASA, yes, and what a treat to see the familiar names in Latin.

Far over the Misty Montes (very) cold [In reply to] Can't Post

Where methane clouds repel the bold,
We must away ere break of day,
To try to salvage Huygens probe . . .

As something of an "astronomy nut," I thank you!Smile

Coolest subject line of the year. :) [In reply to] Can't Post

"Doom Mons." I'd stay the heck away from that one.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauronís master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Sorry for the late reply! Holidays got to me . . . [In reply to] Can't Post

Ha--I like that: "way over my head." It's even way over Stephen Hawking's head. Now I feel better.Wink

So, do you like science fiction at all, as well as astronomy? I used to read a lot of sci-fi as a kid, but now I usually drag out one of my astronomy books for non majors or laymen or whatever I've been able to find that gives information without much math.

And pictures. (I'm especially captivated by the Horsehead and some of the other nebulae for some reason.Smile)

Thanks! [In reply to] Can't Post

Blush

It really needs more verses, but I ran out of steam with the Holidays and all. I'd love to have someone chime in and wrote some more of it (hint, hintSly).

Hey, maybe a bunch of us could come up with the sci-fi version of the Lay of Leithien or something!Shocked

I haven't read much sci-fi [In reply to] Can't Post

even though I enjoy the sci-fi genre. Some of my favourite movies are sci-fi. I have a reading list that I'm slowly working my way through when I'm not reading for uni work. The list includes a variety of books but there are quite a few sci-fi books on it.

I really enjoy listening to StarTalk Radio (you can google it to find the website) which is hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson. I also really love Carl Sagan's 'Cosmos' - it's so amazing!
