Golden Eagle inspired by The Hobbit practices snatching a child Can't Post

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/...ler-played-park.html

Wow! Pretty scary to see you child being snatched by a bird of prey. Lucky the eagle dropped the child at a low altitude. If the eagle had managed to tree with the child it would have been a very tragic ending as it would have killed the child - in a most horrible way - before anyone could do anything.

Even if it is shown to be a fake video it does bring up the possibility of a small child being at risk to various creatures in nature. Pretty good CGI effects.

Yep, but an eagle striking and realizing the wt is too much can [In reply to] Can't Post

still injure a child.....hypothetically.....Golden Eagle:

"Diet - Groundhogs, marmots, foxes, skunks, cats, rabbits, grouse, ground squirrels, crows, pheasants, meadowlarks, tortoises, and snakes."

A good general rule seems to be that eagles can carry up to half of their own weight....they weigh between 8-15 lbs...so 4-7 lbs is the range..(about 5 as you indicated).

An old story from 1900 of a very rare "attack"

o . . . kay [In reply to] Can't Post

I guess we've all got things we worry about. Eagles trying to fly off with children is just not going on my list.
