Inside Ereborn - thoughts on the design Can't Post

I was wondering what people thought of the design of Ereborn. Was it more/less spectacular than expected and did it feel like it belonged in Jackson's Middle Earth or in a different movie?

It was perfection. [In reply to] Can't Post

It did belong to Middle Earth, even if it screamed Del Torro all along.
I thought it was quite spectacular to see at last some dwarves architecture. The great halls of Moria left me cold in FotR, because it was abandoned and I had some difficulties to picture how it looked in its glorious days. But Erebor, Erebor was a visual delight. From the throne room to the mines, everything was otherworldly and grandiose.
I loved it and I am eager to see more in flashbacks in the next two films !

Best visuals in the film [In reply to] Can't Post

Erebor and Dale were the only visual parts of the film that really wowed me. Probably because we had already seen all the other locations...

Something seemed off... [In reply to] Can't Post

I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about the design of Erebor and the dwarves in the flashbacks. It just didn't seem to have that quality of realism that LotR had. Did Guillermo have a hand in those designs? It seemed like his style and different from the type of stuff established by PJ & Co. in LotR.

I imagine I'll look more fondly on the designs when I go for viewing #2 (as well as a few other issues I had). I think I'm just comparing too much to the first trilogy. It had a much more different look and feel than I was expecting. Unsure

Really? [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought it was very firmly in the realm of Dwarven design from LOTR, right down to everything being angular and geometric. It was just seen on a very grand, colorful scale, in contrast to the muted darkness of LOTR. I thought it was perfect.
