Well, I've never had a pet leech, [In reply to] Can't Post

so I feel like I've missed out really.
Actually, I think I understand a bit about the horrible injury thing. I was injured at work in a split second, nothing as dramatic as the way you were hurt, but it had major repercussions. I ended up having five surgeries (the worst part was having a bone graft taken out of my hip), and I now have a hand that is somewhat below par.
Hmmm, maybe I should have tried leeches. Crazy

Scars [In reply to] Can't Post

I have some decent ones on my wrist and hand following a lot of surgery. I kind of love them. I went through a lot to get them, and they are now part of who I am. They are like a badge I wear.
I say, love those scars!

Heheh [In reply to] Can't Post

I didn't need it so much by SLC but I was glad I had it. I got rid of it just after I got back, and went back to rowing then - after nine months out.

The plastic surgery people were open to all sorts of things [In reply to] Can't Post

The idea of the leech was to stimulate the blood flow in the muscle graft, but they also used manuka honey as a dressing instead of some artificial cream. Isn't it amazing what they can do?

Yes, I used a pull-buoy for a long time [In reply to] Can't Post

Eventually I ditched it and kicked normally, but it took a while. The whole episode really taught me a lot of patience!

I still have the Get Well card you sent me [In reply to] Can't Post

I had sent you a Get Well card, and then my daughter posted that I was having surgery and you sent me one.

I must admit, until now I didn't realize how serious the breaks were. I just knew Eledhwen from TORN was hurt and I thought she would like to get a card from the states.

It's not an anniversary to celebrate, but it is wonderful to celebrate the community of TORN.

I've still got yours, somewhere [In reply to] Can't Post

At my parents' house, I think. All the cards and messages were really appreciated. Smile

It took a long time before I realised how bad it was. Probably just as well!

I remember that! [In reply to] Can't Post

We were pretty scared for you when we heard the news. Thanks for posting this great follow-up. I'm glad you were able to ditch the crutch :-)

Wow. Now that's real courage, hanging in there [In reply to] Can't Post

through all of that!

(I kept thinking of Ewan Macgregor in that "Ghostwriter" movie. After all, you were in journalism too! You weren't involved with MI5 or anything at the time, were you?Wink)

And it was really a car full of chiropodists?

Anyway, we're very glad you made it through to be with us for your 10-year milestone.Smile

Ha! no ... [In reply to] Can't Post

I was just a baby journalist then. I could barely tell a subhead from a byline. Yes, it was really a car full of chiropodists. One of them fainted, even though I didn't - hopeless!

Ten years! [In reply to] Can't Post

Gosh, I remember that time so well, it really doesn't seem ten years ago. We were so worried about you!

It's wonderful to have had the pleasure of meeting you in real life since then, and of still being able to spend time with you on TORn. Kia ora, e hoa.
