Interesting images found in the "13 minutes" special. Possible SPOILERS Can't Post

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster here, I'd like first to thank all here, especially the TORN staff, for all we get from the site and from these forums. Outstanding work, JRR himself would be proud of you all.

Now, I did not see this mentioned before in the forums, but when I re-watched the "13 minute" special with my thumb over the "pause" button so I woudn't miss anything, I noticed two interesting images. This is the first one, at about 1:38 into the video:

In the board behind Richard Taylor we get to notice a mention of what appears to be "children dwarves" (the cell is partially covered, but I've no doubt that's what we see). I know women dwarves were already a certainty in the movie, but to have children is also nice, allowing us a more complete look on the dwarvish society, at least before Smaug attacked Erebor.

The other one left me puzzled. Here, it appears circa 12:26 into the video. There's a dead or at least seriously wounded dwarf behind Bilbo. Now, I'm not going to speak of what may or may not happen later on in this story, but in this first movie I'm just not seeing what can this be. Could it be a dream (Bilbo's) ?

Here the image:

Again, sorry if this was already posted or discussed, but if it was I didn't see it!

Frito groaned. "I wish I had never been born," he said.
"Do not say that, dear Frito," cried Orlon. "It was a happy minute for us all when you were born."

Arwen's review explains that shot:

"The end of the movie reflects the book with the addition of a fight between Azog and Thorin, in which Bilbo steps in to save Thorin's life. The company is rescued by the eagles and taken to the Carrock. There for the first time Thorin shows some appreciation for Bilbo. "

About pictures [In reply to] Can't Post

@Aragalen: Thanks! About your question, I have the pictures uploaded to a hosting site, then I use the "image" tags and put the image web address between them.

Like this (if you take out the **** from both tags, it will work):

[image****]http://pe1850b.theonering.net/torn-images/slides_dyn/slide_72.jpg[/image****]

@daemoon: Thanks, I didn't pay enough attention to that part of Arwen's review. It makes sense now, because from the image it really seemed it was Thorin the dead or wounded dwarf ... and I just couldn't understand when/how/where could that be part of this first film.

@Notanelvishname: Thanks, I'm following that thread, among others, but I guess daemoon cleared this up by now! :)

@Lusitano: Interesting nick Wink

Smaug [In reply to] Can't Post

Have you noticed that 'old Smaug design' is written under 'notes'? I wonder if we'll ever see this design...

Age of Smaug? [In reply to] Can't Post

I think "Old Smaug design" means that we will see (as some of us already thought about) two designs of him. The "Younger Smaug" attacking Erebor and Dale and the "Old Smaug" who now lives years later under the mountain. I don't think "Old" means that it was a former design but a design for a older dragon. But it's just an interpretation Wink

Old Smaugeys [In reply to] Can't Post

Ah, good point. I had presumed the 'old smaug' was Del Toro's.

However we don't really get a good glimpse of the 'young' Smaug... would they really need to change his design? Would they just call him 'Smaug' rather than 'Old Smaug', since this version will get 99.9999% of the screen-time?

Hmm... [In reply to] Can't Post

... but nobody has seen DOS yet except Peter and his cutter. Perhaps there are more Smaug-flashbacks in "Desolation of Smaug"? More background information about our favourite dragon featuring the "young Smaug" design? I'm pretty sure that the "young Smaug" is a more 'naked' dragon only with his scale armour and "old Smaug" is a dragon with scale armour AND gold, jewels and diamonds as a melted chainmail.

No doubt we will see it in TABA documentaries [In reply to] Can't Post

I imagine there is no final design for Smaug at the moment. They still have a year before he needs to be shown.

The White Tower of Ecthelion it is not, but the Belém Tower in Lisbon is plenty lovely in its own right.

…all eyes looked upon the ring; for he held it now aloft, and the green jewels gleamed there that the Noldor had devised in Valinor. For this ring was like to twin serpents, whose eyes were emeralds, and their heads met beneath a crown of golden flowers, that the one upheld and the other devoured; that was the badge of Finarfin and his house.
