Popular Mechanics, January 2013: "The Hobbits 3D Wizardy" Can't Post

There is an exceptionally nice article in the new Popular Mechanics on the technical processes involved in doing scale compositing of live 3D. I am sure everyone would love it.

My dad used to get that magazine, I thought it was pretty cool [In reply to] Can't Post

Alas, I don't get it right now. Unsure

Arthur: What manner of man are you that can summon up fire without flint or tinder?
Tim: I... am an enchanter.
Arthur: By what name are you known?
Tim: There are some who call me... 'Tim'...?
Arthur: ...greetings, Tim the Enchanter.

Thanks for the heads up. [In reply to] Can't Post

Actually, Popular Mechanics has turned in to quite an interesting magazine, and they have a cool online presence. They do a lot of scientific takes on popular culture, kind of like mythbusters, but more in depth. I remember reading a lot of articles there when Lost was still on, addressing things that were happening on the show. It's a great site.

You know I'll like it ;) [In reply to] Can't Post

Long time no talk Kangi ... I always was a big fan of 3D
Thanks!

If I recall correctly, you weren't as big a fan of 3D &/or may have had physical issues with it (or is it your wife that has problem with 3D?)

I don't know if you will be watching it in the 3D 48fps format, but if so, I would be interested to see if this new 3D format makes any difference for those who are prone to issues with 3D, and/or those who just prefer 2D...!? If you or you know someone that either prefers 2D or has real issues with 3D, and they see it in the new format, please post and let us know if PJs 3D makes any difference...

Will do! [In reply to] Can't Post

I've only ever managed to sit through one 3D film from beginning to end, but I do want to give this a try and see if it's better. 2D first though, in case it isn't!!!

Yes I thought the Hobbit should have been shot in 2-D to match LotR movies. [In reply to] Can't Post

I also championed the anti-3D movement and tasted bitter defeat on both fronts. It is funny, I have no problems watching 3D (except the abominable glasses) but I know several people who are sensitive to the format. Also, the group I will attend opening night with all wanted to see the 2D version. I will view the high frame rate 3D at a later time and will speak to it then. KS

IMAX 3D High Frame Rate [In reply to] Can't Post

Well I also bought a ticket for the IMAX 3D High Frame Rate version on the 14th. I have to see the whiz-bang version as well. I will let you know what I think.
