Even though we live in a populated area, I still look skyward every morning when I get the paper. If you stop and look, it's amazing what one can see. Briliant Venus in the east, Jupiter in the west and a slew of familiar constellations. From Orion to Gemini, to the Big Dipper and Taurus (for reference, Jupiter has been in Taurus for months).

My best viewing was in two places: The Florida panhandle and the mountains of northern Georgia to North Carolina's High Country. The Milky Way was easily visible. As you might have guessed by now, I have been a sky watcher for many years.

If one wants to avoid the "light pollution", hop in the car and head for the countryside. It's a small price to pay.

A few harmless flakes working together can unleash an avalanche of destruction.
