They can't only consider your intentions, but all the possible intentions, some of them more nefarious. For example, trolls can post something provocative, then edit it to look reasonable after some number of posts, making others look reactionary and foolish.
However, I have missed that one final typo edit at times by just a few seconds. 20 minutes would be nice. 30 would be better. :) Some forums allow unlimited edits until there is another reply and then the time limit kicks in. Considering how fast this forum gets replies, that would probably be ineffectual, but it wouldn't hurt to allow it.
