Agreed, I've considered this as well. [In reply to] Can't Post

A scene like this just seems a natural place for some exposition as the Dwarves accaint Bilbo, as well as the audience, with some back-story before they reach Rivendell. IMO, this would probably occur the night before the Trollshaw, but it could possible be after or even in the Last Homely House.

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

Isengard is even farther from The Shire than Dol Guldur is from The Troll Shaws [In reply to] Can't Post

yet Gandalf managed to reach it before Frodo and Sam got out of the East Farthing. Mayhaps Wizards use their powers to greatly enhance the speed of their mounts. . . but only when nobody else is watching. lol

Don't forget the abounded farmhouse! [In reply to] Can't Post

It must have something to do with the tombs.

Wouldn't it be somewhat ironic, [In reply to] Can't Post

if the purse is in, but the abandoned farmhouse is not? Wink

Yes, quite possibly...or the trolls? [In reply to] Can't Post

Perhaps Bill, Ted & Bert have had better luck with getting their fill of man-flesh than in the book? Tongue

But the abandoned farmhouse most likely features somewhere in here...do we know yet quite where it figures into the sequence of events. Does the WETA book happen to say?

Perhaps Gandy finds it while he's scouting up the road?

Has someone been watching Bill & Ted recently? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm sure you meant to say Tom.Tongue

The book said it happens before Trollshaw, and gives an indication that the area has become dangerous again.

Heehee...so, Keanu's rumored cameo hanging out with Hugo on the White Council hasn't made the cut? [In reply to] Can't Post

Of course, the farmhouse could simply be part of the scenery in the rather shady area they head through on the periphery of the Shire from the book, but who knows if it'll have more significance in the film?

I was hoping for a glimpse at the Forsaken Inn personally, but no such luck as of yet! Wink

Hmmm - the Tomb scene definitely takes place after Trollshaws [In reply to] Can't Post

I went back and checked and you can definitely see that Gandalf has his sword for this scene (I can't quite work out how to post an image or I would add a picture)

So I think we are working on some of the events in the wrong order here.

So it must be.. [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Gandalf disappears off prior to Trollshaws
2. Gandalf returns picks up sword
3. Either Radagast comes to Trollshaws or
3a. Gandalf goes off to the tomb and meets him there
4. While he is away the warg attack takes place
5. Before they all meet again at Rivendell.

Questions:
Where does Gandalf go at stage 1?

Is the "ancient enemy" therefore Sauron at Dol Guldur, since it isn't the Nazgul tombs?

Is it option 3 or 3a?
(3 has in its favour Quint's set report, whilst 3a has the comic con footage where Radagast mentions that the tombs are a horrible place to meet and the fact that we have already seen Gandalf entering the tombs alone. )

Here I thought... [In reply to] Can't Post

that the bird was telling Radagast about the injured/sick hedgehog (maybe poisoned by a spider)?

Frito groaned. "I wish I had never been born," he said.
"Do not say that, dear Frito," cried Orlon. "It was a happy minute for us all when you were born."

Is it possible [In reply to] Can't Post

that Dol Gulder may be in, but the Necromancer doesn't make an appearance? Perhaps it's a flashback to Gandalf getting the map and key from Thrain!
