Yeah noticed that too. [In reply to] Can't Post

Not sure if that's a slip up, or something significant.

Assuming the dragon arrived in some of the Men of Laketown's lives [In reply to] Can't Post

Then it gives extra reason to march to the Lonely Mountain and reclaim the gold? I imagine this will become an important part of The Master's story.

That's the only reason I can think of the change?

Wasn't "The dragon hasn't been seen for 60 years" a line [In reply to] Can't Post

of Thorin in the reports of the comic con footage ? I remember reading that and thinking it was strange that the dragon had been active so long after he went to Erebor. Now it seems in contrary that he didn't harass the town of dale like it is stated in the book and that the fall of Dale was exactly concomitant to the fall of Erebor.

I posted this [In reply to] Can't Post

Here.

That suggests the dragon hasn't been seen in 60 years, rather than it being 60 years since his arrival.

True, but combined with Dark Jackal discovery, this line takes another sense [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes I'm not very enthusiastic either... What about Smaug's age now ? [In reply to] Can't Post

He was supposed to have grown a lot since his arrival at Erebor, but 60 years aren't really a big deal for dragon, so some part of his dialogue will change... We'll see how they'll manage this

In either case [In reply to] Can't Post

I think there's some confusion. The thread I linked to was from a report from ComicCon. It could well be incorrect.

Reasons for doing that: [In reply to] Can't Post

We know that Bard is going to be built up a bit. Which means putting him into a completely new subplot, which would require an antagonist. This is probably going to be the Master of Laketown, and a power struggle between the legitimate heir and the politician. I wouldn't be surprised if Bard is in prison when the dragon attacks.

A Far Dragon is the best kind...

Wow. You're right. [In reply to] Can't Post

I've always thought of Frodo as middle-aged when reading Lord of the Rings, and while that is true (he's 50 years old throughout most of the book), the ring stopped his aging while he was young. I guess I never thought about his appearance as being much younger than his actual age. Does Tolkien ever refer to the discrepency much throughout the books? Looks like I'll have to do another reread soon.

all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us...

The real problem is, with Thornin's new age, if the old timeline were at all adhered to [In reply to] Can't Post

it would mean Smaug arrived at the mountain before any of the dwarves in the company were born. Crazy

"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!"

"Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."
