Perhaps the problem there [In reply to] Can't Post

is having to make alterations like this precisely because its two films stretched into three and it is a film cut 2/3 of the way through - if doing so is going to undermine the development Tolkien laid out for the main character I am not in favour of the choice to make it into three (I was already hesitant about two).

Note that he is defending himself from the goblin, not attacking. [In reply to] Can't Post

Of course he is not going to die. [In reply to] Can't Post

Other than the fact we know he dies at BOFA, we have seen him during the barrel sequence behind the scenes shots.

Is that Orcrist? [In reply to] Can't Post

It's kind of hard to tell, but it looks like the sword has an asymmetrical blade like Orcrist. If it is Orcrist, then it can't be from the battle of five armies because the Elven King took all their weapons.

Could be BO5A [In reply to] Can't Post

as a glimpse ahead, and this sort of change is well within the scope of what PJ does.

Yes, he will die in the first film [In reply to] Can't Post

and the second film will begin with Thorin lying on the ground and his entire life will flash in front of his eyes 5 seconds before he dies.

This will give PJ&Co. an opportunity to fill second and third movie with plenty of flashbacks of Erebor and Azzanulbizar scenes, Thorin`s life in Dunland and Ered Luin and some additional scenes that show what a great dwarf his grandpa was.

None of it has been filmed yet. So it's very unlikely. / [In reply to] Can't Post
