Soave, Verona, Italy!!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

maybe someone could know my small-town name because of wine even if in the USA our wine is a recent discovery
others will surely know Verona as the city of Romeo & Juliet

If you don't mind me asking, how "central" in central Illinois? [In reply to] Can't Post

I live in the middle of circle formed by Springfield, Decatur, Champaign and Bloomington. I gather you were from very close to that, or would you rather not say?

You'll see that in every contract. It's called a "sanity clause".

Central Illinois geography [In reply to] Can't Post

I was born and raised about twentysome miles due south of Champaign-Urbana (home of my undergrad alma mater), so a bit more to the east, but still pretty close to where you live, I'd guess. And I think I can guess! Smile

Tried link twice and got two different results [In reply to] Can't Post

The first time on my phone, the link was to a newspaper site with three videos, but none of the eclipse. The second time on my computer took me to an earthquake site. Both were interesting though. I liked the story about Prince Charles meeting one of the dwarves from TH Smile
Thanks for trying Smile

A Lot of Brits [In reply to] Can't Post

I have to say there are a lot of Brits on TORn.

I, myself, am a Brit as well. From East Yorkshire in fact, some would say I'm from Hull, but that isn't in East Yorkshire. Let's just say I'm almost from Hull ha. Just West of Hull, in a small town called Hessle.

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

I live in the 3rd largest nuclear superpower in the world... [In reply to] Can't Post

North Dakota, USA. At least it was when I was a kid back in the 80s. For those not familiar with North Dakota, which probably includes most of the Americans on here, it is a sparsely populated rural, Midwestern state. The temperature can drop as low as -80 degrees with the wind chill in the winters and can get as hot as 120 in the summers. I'm not.certain, but I think Morgoth lives here. Although I think Manwe lives here too cause 700,000 people live in the state and there is an average of 5 murders a year. Every state has a few Feanors.

As three great Jewels they were in form. But not until the End, when Fëanor shall return who perished ere the Sun was made, and sits now in the Halls of Awaiting and comes no more among his kin; not until the Sun passes and the Moon falls, shall it be known of what substance they were made. Like the crystal of diamonds it appeared, and yet was more strong than adamant, so that no violence could mar it or break it within the Kingdom of Arda.

Not Minot [In reply to] Can't Post

We live about an hour away, and my wife is originally from Minot so we get there frequently. It's quite depressing to see all the houses still damaged a year later. Thank god we had an abnormally mild winter or else the poor people In FEMA homes might have froze to death. Currently, Minot is inundated with unemployed out of staters looking for work. Because of the oil boom, the recession never hit here, so there has been an influx of people. Wanna make $20 an hour at a fast food joint? Move to NDnd you'll have a job in about 3 seconds. Of course you'll have a hard time finding a place to live. My parents bought their house in 1991 for $18,000. They've made some improvements, but nothing major. The house is worth over $400,000 now. 5 years ago towns were filled with empty houses, now you can't even get a hotel room half the time.

As three great Jewels they were in form. But not until the End, when Fëanor shall return who perished ere the Sun was made, and sits now in the Halls of Awaiting and comes no more among his kin; not until the Sun passes and the Moon falls, shall it be known of what substance they were made.
