Another snippet. [In reply to] Can't Post

I read an news item yesterday which implies that "street caterers" have to get officially sanctioned.
Hope that doesn't mean you can't bring your own snacks and drinks. Speaking of which, Courtenay Place and surrounds is a strictly "No boozing in public area".

I'd be surprised if that's the case. [In reply to] Can't Post

Apart from anything else, policing it would be impossible with so many people on the streets.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauronís master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

No it doesn't mean you can't bring your own food [In reply to] Can't Post

They don't want random street vendors, nor a huge influx of them, they want to be able to control the numbers and the quality of the food. At least, that is how I read it.

Street caterers: Crispy Bacon is in! [In reply to] Can't Post

There's been a street stall selling bacon butties at various markets around Wellington for a while. They got the nod to sell their bacon butties at the big Middle Earth market that'll be running at Waitangi Park. Very hobbit-friendly decision from the Wellington powers that be. (Not surprising, given the Mayor is a Tolkien fan.)

Explain this please, for the non-Kiwis [In reply to] Can't Post

What is a Bacon Buttie? I know Bacon, but Buttie???? Not familiar with that. Do they just sell bacon, or but it on something, or in something, or garnish it? Just curious, because I do love me some Bacon.

a google image search indicates... [In reply to] Can't Post

that it is a LOT of bacon on a bun.

Someone took a poll once... 'what would you do if you knew the world would end in 60 minutes' and a large percentage of people (including me, silently listening to the report) said, "eat chocolate"

I think, as I've gotten older it would be 'eat all the bacon I want'. Maybe a bacon buttie. lol

Large bacon sandwich sounds delightful.

and I think I'd eat both Bacon and Chocolate if time was of the essence, with a pizza on the side.

Its so strange when someone doesnt know a word that you have heard all your life - buttie. I dont mean that in a nasty way, im sure there are loads you know that i havent a clue, it just tickled me, especially of what you think it could have been!

Man, i love a bacon buttie! some nice brown sauce, or tomato sauce im easy, lol. Always felt like a real treat to get one when young.

For taste *or* health.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

pretty much nothing sold at the Minnesota State Fair is good for you [In reply to] Can't Post

deep fried cheese curds
mini donuts
hot chocolate chip cookies
Deep Fried Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough on a Stick
Deep Fried Candy Bars
bacon ice cream
funnel cakes (drizzle batter in hot fat, fry, dust with sugar)

Cheese curds are good. Well, one cheese curd is good. Buy a tray and split it between as many people as you can. Mini donuts are good for 1 minute. When they cool... they're just greasy. Bites of funnel cakes are good. Again, split with as many people as possible.

I haven't had any of the rest.

Grilled corn is the bomb.

The OC Fair had this too [In reply to] Can't Post

But I couldn't find the stand before I'd spent all my money at other places, like Pinks Hot Dogs, Deep Fried Oreos, BBQ Corn, etc.

Fair food is never healthy for you.

Is that a photo of yours? What did it taste like?

I'm not sure the combo would work that well - sweet with savoury but would give it a go, lol.

it was a promotional photo from the fair - and no, I didn't try it [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm old enough to really believe that some food puts you one foot closer to the grave.

But I am known to have a slice of bacon every now and then.
