Roots and Beginnings (new blog) Can't Post

I've been wanting to start a record of my thoughts and experiences regarding my love for the Middle-earth mythology for a long time....it's been such a big and impportant part of my life. So I've started a Tumblr. I doubt if too many people will take interest, but I want to do it nonetheless! So here is my first post!

Great read [In reply to] Can't Post

I have just finished reading your posts on your blog. Its amazing to think, what your life may have been like had you not watched the films. Maybe you would never have discovered your love for film and stuck with music, who knows?

Also great photos, very clear. The first one of Frodo holding the ring - i got that poster for xmas 2001 and it stayed on my wall until i left for uni in september 2006, its still in the attic somewhere!

I feel very much the same about the world Tolkien created, minus the tobacco, i have read way too many articles relating how they cause cancer (an essay i handed in today, was related to oral cancer and smoking). But other than that i love everything about hobbit life. I come from rural England, though not one of the shires and see myself as a hobbit really. The city is not for me!

Even though i probably come across as someone who doesnt like the films, i actually do really like them, lol. I am not sure if they are what i consider the best ever made, like you do though. I used to, but maybe i have watched them too many times, or seen more films, or my tastes have changed. I think there are loads of films which i love and analysing the films for me hasnt really helped as it has pointed out flaws in them which i didnt see during my initial viewings, lol. That is one reason why i am thinking i will love the hobbit movies even if i moan about some of the decisions PJ has made.

It would be great i think if PJ could read your blog, imagine how it would feel to know you have inspired someone so much through a film you made Smile

I look forward to the next post!

I'm glad you've enjoyed it.
Actually I don't really somke very often...but I find it a relaxing and fun social pasttime every once in awhile...because you are right, it's really bad for you.
I agree about city life. I life in a decent sized city in the middle of the desert in New Mexico, so I really appreciate a rural, green setting.
Regarding LOTR being the 'best films ever made'...it is interesting because they don't really represent the kind of films that I generally appreciate. Being a big fan of filmmakers like Terrence Malick, Alfonso Cuaron, and Alfred Hitchcock, I don't generally get that into big blockbuster and mainstream films.
However, I think as a whole, taking into consideration the art design, the music, the incredible casting, etc....LOTR are some of the greatest films ever made. The passion and love, and quality that went into the films (especially considering how big and mainstream they were) was just phenominal and unprecedented IMO. Of course they aren't perfect, and a lot of things make me cringe...but overall I think PJ did an astounding job capturing the spirit and creating a visual world to rival what we've read in Tolkien's books.

And yes that would be awesome if PJ read my blog!!! Maybe he would give me a job!
