Brief Mention of 'the Hobbit' in Variety Can't Post

Ringer Gerry sends us this tidbit from a Variety.com article:

Studio is also counting on distributing two installments of "The Hobbit," with hopes that a thaw between director Peter Jackson and New Line over "The Lord of the Rings" will return that helmer back to Middle-earth.

MGM vs New Line [In reply to] Can't Post

The article is about MGM making the Hobbit, so if the hopeful news from New Line is true, MGM won't be in on the deal...

Actually... [In reply to] Can't Post

MGM has the distribution rights, not the rights to make the film. I view this as a good thing, because MGM has always been in PJ's corner, and therefore has some leverage to steer New Line in the direction of resolving the issue with him.

For Gondor!

Entertaining politics [In reply to] Can't Post

This is new info for me Smile

Was this the case with the trilogy too? If not, how did MGM get the distribution rights for 'The Hobbit'? Is New Line happy with this?

Don't know if anybody can answer these, would like to know more about the matter since I'm not that into movie politics...

this page explains [In reply to] Can't Post

Although I'm no expert, but this page talks about the movie rights, etc. Scroll down.

Others here know much more about this than do I, so maybe they'll chime in if the info on that page is not correct.

"Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime; therefore we must be saved by hope. Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore we must be saved by faith. Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we must be saved by love."
