*is jealous* [In reply to] Can't Post

I went looking last night and couldn't find one in my area yet (probably because I only had time to look in one Wal-mart and one B&N).

Since nothing is forthcoming for the Home Page yet, I'll spill the secret for the message board members: Yes, this is a TORn magazine with almost all of the content, and most of the pictures, from TORn staffers. No, it's not the beginning of a fan club - no word from WB on whether that will materialize or not. However, if sales do well, there may be more editions!

We were approached by the publishers a few months ago to do this, and all worked our tails off to get it done and out in time for the initial Hobbit excitement. I don't know yet if it will be available outside of the U.S. - but if not, TORn may be able to make them available by mail. I think it depends on how well they sell though, so the best way to insure you get one (if they sell well) might be to ask a nice U.S. TORnsib to buy one for you and send it.

Thanks, too, Sunflower - the two articles you said were your favs so far are two of mine! *big proud grin* Cool (not having the magazine yet, I'm not sure if I'm credited on both of those because they were pretty small). Having proofed many of the articles and interviews though, I can vouch for the fact that there are many outstanding ones.

I hope everyone likes it! Smile

I checked back with my closest B&N [In reply to] Can't Post

about 45 mins away... the one that said they didn't have any. Well... they apparently did, because the 2nd person I spoke with "WENT" to look and said that one of the other workers saw 2 issues only on the shelf, and they're both gone. ARGH!

So I called another one about an hour away, and they JUST GOT THEM IN!! So they're mailing one to me! BLESS THEIR HEARTS! They only got a few in, though... and they're being snatched up fast!

I'm running to Wal-Mart during my 1/2 hr lunch break and see if they have any.

*geeky hand-clapping!*

*Spoilers* [In reply to] Can't Post

From pgs 12-13, about the Dwarves:

Gloin: "initially a skeptic of Bilbo, Gloin proves to be a helpful associate along with brother Oin as the fire starters in the band of Dwarves" (let's hope this means more than just heating duty!)
Balin: "a refugee from the desruction of Erebor, Balin...is the second to appear at the home of Bilbo Baggins. Balin serves as the expedition's primary lookout, and he brings wite-haired wisdom to the group"
Bifur: (mostly stuff we know)
Bofur: "is reportedly going to add a lot in the way of comic relief throughout the film"
Bombur: "....is nearly eaten by the spiders of Mirkwood and is constantly eating himself, but proves his worth by carrying Bilbo on his back in the dark tunnels of the Misty Mountains"
Dori: "...often the last to escape when trouble strikes. However, he comes to Bilbo's aid during their adventures numerous times. Perhaps for Dori, hanging back is part of the plan"
Dwalin: "the first of the Dwarves to arive at Bag End. The generous Dwarf loans his spare hood and cloak to Bilbo, who stores them as a precious keepsake. he also has awesome tats." (Ah, I can see the imitiations among fandom now...:)
Ori: "..is the least experienced of the company when it comes to facing down danger, and as a result, his brother Dori spends a lot of time making sure he's alive"
Fili: "is assumed to have a great love for music and is noted for having the best eyesight of the 13 dwarves"
Kili: "...a wee bit sexier than your typical Dwarf, and he likes it that way" (and this fan says: BRING IT ON!Evil) Oh God..let the speculation *really* commence...:)
Nori:"...exhibits a Hobbit-like appreciation for large and frequent meals. When approached by Wargs in the Wilderland, it is Nori who notices Bilbo has been left in the clearing as the Dwarves climb trees for safety"
Oin: "serves as the company's impromptu medic and apothecary, and like his brother, enjoys a good argument about the best way to start a fire" [writer's note--Lol. As a former Girl Scout and current hilker, I'll be in on the argument--though I'll try not to argue out loud in the theater:)

From p. 14-15--Radagast: first-hands accounts from Comic-Con of birds flittering about around his head and under his hat"--a "humerous" Radagast whose role has been expanded and is "a known friend of Beorn...it is Beorn who utters Radagast's name to Gandalf in reference to wizards" (what does this mean? Radagast is a fellow Istari--surely Gandalf can't have forgotten him! And does this mean their sneaking into Dol Goldur coems later in the film now?)

p 16: Thranduil: "while the Elven King initally distrusts the dwarves for their greedy nature, he ends up coming to their aid in the BO5A" (is this differnet from the book? Aid for who? Against Smaug? I can't see the Elves and dwarves as allies.)'
Nothing new on Tuariel, though there's most of a page aobut her (and you gents will *really* like the pic of Evangeline Lilly..can't say moreEvil)
p 17-Bard: "the dour bowman yearns for revenge"

The "Cliffhangers" article says "we have also heard that there will be some flashbacks and backstory in the film, as well as side-stories based on the Appendices, which indicates that each film will be very, very busy"
However, one of the articles gives the ending as barrells out of Bound, so it's unclear if this article ent to ress before the confirmation of a trilogy'

Depends [In reply to] Can't Post

what you mean by "Spy" pics

If you mean sets or locations, etc, then nothing we haven't seen from the vlogs. If you means possible film stills: in "Exclusive Photos" we have:
--(and this is the stuff I *really* wish I could scan, drat it!)--"A Tattooed Dwalin" (great tats on his bare head and hands. Looks like runes on his hands, in dark grey-green ink.)
--"Dwarves use bows too" --apparently Thorin is a pretty good archer.
--"Bombur chows down" --Bombur sitting on a spindly, elegant-looking table, with a bowl in his hands, in what looks like an inner court framed by pillars and lush trees, in moonlight. Rivendell maybe?
--"Dwarven karoake"--close-up of Kili and Dori roaring out something to each other across an ale mug. Bag End of course.

All I can see at the mo.

Yes, confirmed before Trilogy confirmed [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, the story about film endings came before the trilogy was confirmed, and it was a wee bit too late to re-edit that particular story.

I assume it's the other way around. Gandalf tells Beorn he is a wizard, and Beorn says something like "Well, Radagast is a good friend, so maybe I can trust you."

We know we meet Radagast before Beorn, since he is on the AUJ cast list and Beorn isn't.

No, it's not different from the book, and it's not against Smaug.

The revenge plot isn't in the books, but we where expecting Bard's story to be expanded.

Nope [In reply to] Can't Post

None of my photos were used.

The interview was NOT from my set visit either but another chat I had with Mr. Taylor. Maybe he is adopting me since my last name was changed to "Taylor" on the byline.

I have no choice but to believe in free will.
