Voldemort vs The Necromancer Can't Post

DeathEaters vs The Nazgul, its a tough one. I was going to say David Yates vs the Necromancer, as Yates kills magic more thoroughly than anyone I can think of.

The Necromancer and the Nazgul! [In reply to] Can't Post

There is no way I'd ever say that anything HP related is "better" than Tolkien related. Wink

Tolkien's baddies win. [In reply to] Can't Post

Not only is the Necromancer older and more bitter, and has more power in his veins, than Voldemort does, but the Nazgul would have the Death Eaters for breakfast. I always thought the Death Eaters were a bit wussy and ineffective for such an evil cadre - talk about hype over reality.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Voldermort as he kills kiddies, is a angry, racist pensioner with a pet snake, and has a scary british accent. [In reply to] Can't Post

'David Yates kills magic more throughly' etc...hmm, I'm still not sure If I liked his films or not, he got better performances and set peices out of the actors and material (I preffered his directorial style over the rather anemic first two films), but he made alot of cuts and changes as well (Half blood prince should have been called A fifth of the Half Blood prince)-though not all were his fault (Order of the Phnoeix's rough cut was over 170 minutes long, the studio pushed him to slice out around a hour), and I've always felt the last three potter books weren't quite as good as the others anyway. Even so as a fan of the books growing up they were a bit dissapointing (Alfonso Cuaron should have done more).

You may want to check out these (basically slideshows of unreleased deleted scenes from the films-things they shot but weren't even released on the DVD's as extras) some of them are very cool if your a fan of the books:

Supposedly there is A LOT More- Phoneix and DH2 had lots of fighting cut from them (plus peter pettigrew's death I remember reading), and DH2 had the Gellert Grindelwald stuff cut-though I'm not sure how much of it was filmed...

*Cough* Extended Cuts Please Warner Brothers *Cough*

There was another better link with lots of stuff from DH2, but last time I looked at it, the pictures had been taken down.

Thought that might interest you

‘As they came to the gates Cirdan the Shipwright came forth to greet them. Very tall he was, and his beard was long, and we was grey and old, save that his eyes were keen as stars; and he looked at them and bowed, and said ‘All is now ready.’

I actually like the first three HP films the best [In reply to] Can't Post

I think the first two are seriously underrated. Columbus got perfect casting and the films were brimming with magical atmosphere, the music always gives me goosebumps. Yates films IMO took all the magic and discarded it for a gritty urban edge. Some people like this dark feel, but I find Yates uses visual darkness as a cheap shorthand for narrative darkness. The story gets grimmer so he decides to make the film so gloomy and murky you cant actually see whats going on in the 3D version. But its the magic killing that really makes me irritated. i really wish Cuaron had done the last 3 films. He would have made them visually enchanting and dangerous, and certainly not dull.

I agree with you on Yates & Cuaron [In reply to] Can't Post

Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite of the HP movies, for many of the reasons you cite, and I doubt it would have been so successful in capturing the right mood without Columbus' work on the first two films. The only thing I would add is that the last five movies just cry out for the music John Williams would have written for them; he had the soundtracks on such an amazing trajectory, and it was derailed by the changes in composers.

Oh, and the Necromancer would win against Voldemort: immortal being vs one desperately trying to be so, the mistakes are bound to be worse for the perverse human. There. A not completely off-topic post.Tongue

Agreed! [In reply to] Can't Post

the music of the first 3 HP films is beautiful, timeless and haunting. I was so disappointed in the last few films when I didnt hear the same calibre of soundtrack.

The Necromancer [In reply to] Can't Post

Perhaps the Prisoner of Azkaban is the best HP movie. Gary Oldman and David Thewlis were really great in that movie.
