Glad you liked it hodge-podge that it is! [In reply to] Can't Post

I hope everybody starts wandering around the House and gets interested. Smile

And I love history too (all kinds!). My kids aren't much interested in our own family history yet, but I still make a couple of old recipes, and my mom and I keep organizing old photos and letter, and hope the kids will be interested in time. It's worth it just for me to get a sense of the "family narrative."

In general... I don't think people get really interested [In reply to] Can't Post

...until it's too late. I said recently, "Who knew I wanted a photo of my grandmother's house until it was torn down?"

When it was there, I took it for granted. Now it's gone and I don't think any photo of the outside exists. There you go.

Not everyone will be interested in history or archiving life or genealogy. But if there is one in any family group, I think it's almost an obligation to do it for everyone else who might want it... someday.

I scanned photos from my father's photo album from the 20's and 30's and then made a photobook of them (Shutterfly). I gave a copy to my brother, my sister, myself, and my two sons. I'm sure they stuck it away and won't think about it again for 40 years. But they'll have it in 40 years. They won't have me to dig the info and photos out for them.

Thanks, Everyone! [In reply to] Can't Post

For the greetings, the good wishes, the cakes, and the poem!

It was a good birthday and a good weekend and I don't mind too much turning 60.

On a side topic, I decided that every one of the 75 footers I created for the 75th Anniversary of The Hobbit deserved to see the light of day. I couldn't easily tell which ones had not been chosen so I just changed my footer code to post a new one with every post. Starting at 1 and ending, with this post, with 75.

So the World Hobbit Day footer comes out and I'll retire my birthday Queen Magpie avatar for a more plebeian one.

Cheers, everyone. You're the best.

I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

Just like a hobbit [In reply to] Can't Post

You really are a true hobbit, giving gifts to all of us on your birthday. Many thanks, and thanks some more.

It's not just me... [In reply to] Can't Post

there's a long standing tradition for the folks who think of TORn as a community to offer mathoms on their birthdays or sometimes on the anniversary of when they signed up (or first posted). In the thread above mine, you'll find Aunt Dora's birthday mathom.

So be on the look out for lots of mathoms here on Off Topic. Some are photos. Some are poems. Some are links to music or video. I'm just a designer so I tend to use my design software for my mathoms. :-)
