Walk to Rivendell and Beyond: There and Back Again Challenge! Can't Post

It's Thursday, which means it must be time to catch up with each other as we travel our many roads in Middle Earth. *pant, wheeze* Go on ahead, I'll catch up!

There and Back Again
Group Challenge Progress

Miles covered last week: 104.5
Cumulative miles: 9410.74
Miles along the journey: 627.38
Miles out of Rivendell: 230.38

We're riding through the grasslands west of Mirkwood again this week. I must admit, I'm somewhat relieved we haven't entered the forest yet!

My progress:
Miles covered this week: 6
Cumulative miles: 369
Goal: There and Back Again!

I managed to squeeze in more activity this week than last, which is good, though I'm still not up to where I want to be... I'll get there!

Beamer's progress:
Miles covered this week: 3
Cumulative miles: 385
Goal: Group Challenge

Beamer's feeling mostly better this week, just dealing with a bit of a lingering cough. She's busy rehearsing for a school play in a couple weeks. They're doing scenes from different plays, so she's in the scene from MacBeth. She's playing Banquo. Yep. Something about having only two boys in the class...

Trying to feel better when you're so busy is quite a challenge. Macbeth!? Way ta go, Beamer!!

I've been enjoying some of the best fall weather I can remember in a long time. It's beautiful out!

Beorn, Gandalf and I are still heading the the skin-changer's abode. We should be there very soon!

Thanks so much for keeping us on the road, Arandiel!! Have a WONDERFUL week!

Miles covered: 22
Cumulated miles: 1314
Goal: #2 Unexpected Journey Individual Challenge and contributing to the Group :)
Weeks to go: 11 until December 14, 2012

So close! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi-dilly-hey fellow walkers, runners, bikers, treadmillers, swimmers and grouters. Yet another busy week with scouts, Mr. Mom 2.0 and trying to prepare for tomorrow's first 5K of the fall season. Little D and I canvassed the neighborhood looking for unsuspecting neighbors to buy some popcorn, which they did. Still have another month of that business.

A mix of indoor and outdoor running, circuit training + a couple days rest and I should be ready. I'll be eating a humongous bowl of pasta this evening (to paraphrase silneldor) to carb up. Bravo sounds good to me. I hope to be under 27, but realistically, I think I'll be in the low 28's. We'll see. The weather should be perfect though. Smile

Have a great weekend, everyone! Toodle-e-doo.

Miles covered since last week: 23.6
Cumulative miles: 964.8
Goal: There and Back Again!

What an ugly display that was. Smaug, in all his greed and lust for treasure, just attempted to destroy Laketown. Fotunately, Bard was up to the challenge and took down the mighty worm. Don't go into the water, ever. So now the Dwarves are fortifying the Front Gate, preparing to defend what they believe it rightfully theirs. I want nothing to do with this and plan to exit stage left. I'm just waiting for Bilbo to get his act together before we head down to the camp. Just a couple more miles and the return trip awaits. Of course, there's that little skirmish that needs to be ironed out first.

A few harmless flakes working together can unleash an avalanche of destruction.

I've had that lingering cough before [In reply to] Can't Post

and it's always the worst part of the cold for me!

I've been following the Couch to 5K running program the past couple of weeks. It's supposed to take anyone from a couch potato to running a 5K race in about 5 weeks (I don't plan to actually compete in a 5K but want to get my running endurance up as I'm pretty pathetic to watch). I'm up to level 3, which is running for 90 seconds, walking for 90 seconds, running for 3 minutes, walking for 3 minutes, and repeat. Level 3 is no problem for me as long as I plan my route so that the runs are mostly downhill! Cool

Miles this week: 14
Cumulative miles: 885

Still floating down the river, but the Lonely Mountain is in sight, now!

Hope Beamer feels better soon... [In reply to] Can't Post

...ShyElf The Younger also has a lingering cough after a nasty bug. That cough just doesn't want to let go. Here's hoping they are both better soon!

Here is my progress:
Miles covered this week: 2.5
Cumulative Miles: 53.5
Goal: There and (I hope) Back Again

So, I've finally left Rivendell - and I'm on my way to the lonely mountain. On this journey I'm at 2.5 miles - "Leave Rivendell, camp in foothills - Ponies."

Mr. ShyElf took me away last weekend for our 2nd anniversary - for a weekend of fun, romance, shopping, wine and fine dining. I did 2.25 miles and paid dearly for it all week (ouch!) - but it was sooooo worth it and I'd love to do it again soon!

Cheers!

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Get that pathetic thing out pronto my dear A-d. [In reply to] Can't Post

Don't make me come over there with my 'terrrrible' pink nurf paddleMadWink[laugh. You are on the road with 'the goal' and each day you pursue it is glory happening.

Let me show you something if i may. It brings tears to my eyes the victory that this bright spirit achieved. I show this to you to show you WHAT is possible. Possible with 'DESIRE-DEVOTION-DEDICATION' . My son and i look at a poster of a bicycler with these word written therein every morning on the kitchen cabinet.

Patience , consistency and 'the goal'. No worries A-d:). You are doing just fine.

Now that is spirit ShyElf [In reply to] Can't Post

That kind of pain is beautiful in the sense that the body is woken up from it's 1st real physical happening and is in the process of rebuilding itself stronger for the next happening. Workouts/rest are always a measured break-down and rebuilding process. Strengthening CANNOT happen otherwise.
Remember to drink a lot water to help in that process, to rid the worn materials in the body that make way for the new.

Give SkyElf my best in her recovery efforts. I have had that persistent cough a few times. It will pass.

Glad you two lovebirds could scoot out for an ...interlude:) Cheers!

i am feeling happier you two are better. [In reply to] Can't Post

The stuff is making its rounds Arandiel and Beemer. On to better days!

I have been delayed with things having driven 1500+ miles up+back to NC for plans of one day settling down there. In the two passed weeks i have accrued just 4 runs of 21 miles and wacking the'ell out of a mass a weeds for a number of intense periods with a scythe which equates to about 40miles total. It leaves me still in the wilds short of the bridge.

Do i get any mileage for sitting on my arse driving for 22hours?.....FrownDidn't think so..Laugh

Wow.... your determination is so inspiring! Just to start and go at your own pace in a 5K is admirable :)

I hope your cough clears up soon, though. That's got to make it harder. It seems like these colds people get anymore always have to long-running coughs (pardon the pun ;)

We've known each other for 24 years, been together for 20 and he is my very best friend in the world! Heart

One of the main reasons why I always look on the bright side of life no matter what comes my way - I've got so much good stuff going that it overtakes any obstacles that may (and do) come my way!

Cheers!

quick update before I forget again!! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hey guys! Hope you've been having a better week than I have--exercise wise. Otherwise it's been great. Cool Finished the first draft of a book I'm writing, so big whoop for me! But here's the scoop on my progress on the journey!

miles 7.4
cumulative 667
goal: There and Back Again Challenge!

You all keep going strong okay? We're going to beat this thing! And when we reach Hobbity home then...we can have a biscuit. And sponge cake. And whatever else is in the pantry. Sly

"It's like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And you didn't want to know the end...for how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But then you realize in the end it's just a passing thing, this shadow. A new day will come! And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stuck with you, that meant something. Even if you were too small to understand. But I think Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. The folk in those stories a lot of chances of turnin' back only they didn't. They kept going, because they were holdin' on to something."
"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for!"
