I would have thought they would want to make it a PG in the UK [In reply to] Can't Post

Which shouldn't be hard to achieve if they avoid on screen beheadings and buckets of blood.

That way, they get a bigger potential audience.

The UK censors tend to pick up on different things that their US counterparts.

The size of the [In reply to] Can't Post

Goblin King makes me wonder if he has trollish blood in him, he seems bigger that the (obviously juvenile) Cave Troll form FOTR. I am fine with the design though I pictured him rather obese than big like that fat Vampire from the first Blade movie.

Not sure how this works in the U.K. [In reply to] Can't Post

I've seen plenty of parents drag toddlers to PG-13 movies either because they felt that the more mature elements would just go over the kids' heads or because they were too thoughtless to find a baby-sitter. Theater-owners in the States generally aren't going to keep them out.

It varies [In reply to] Can't Post

But there are certainly enough responsible parents/ cinema managers to make a PG cert desirable.

In the scene from the trailer, the goblin king has a sword sticking in his belly, so he was probably already dead before his body falls.

That's not his skeleton holding the book in Moria. The CGI team seems to have squashed him here in Goblin Town.

Where's the sword? [In reply to] Can't Post

I have the highest res version of the trailer, and don't see a sword in his belly...

If there is indeed a sword there, I imagine it would be Orcrist, and that the scene in the trailer is both played for laughs, and as a convenient way of Thorin getting his sword back.

Definitely smaller than the cave troll [In reply to] Can't Post

Note that the dwarves are small, and that may make the GK seem larger than he is.

Accounting for their unequal positioning, I would say that Gandalf probably reaches the center of the GK's chest.

Why Orcrist? [In reply to] Can't Post

Shouldn't it be Glamdring?

It should be [In reply to] Can't Post

But I think this iconic moment will go to Thorin instead. I base this solely on the new Bridge Direct toy sets, which pair up Thorin and the Goblin King.

Not conclusive, but there you are.

Also, if you look closely at the Goblin King scene, you can see that Gandalf is holding Glamdring. If there is indeed a sword in the GK's belly (which I still do not see) then it can't be Glamdring.

Makes sense [In reply to] Can't Post

I haven't been paying attention sufficiently to have known that they have paired Thorin and the GG in toyland. If true (and I obviously have no reason to disbelieve you!) that would be compelling evidence. And it seems like the type of thing that Jackson would do. Unfortunate, if true, but not surprising. It doesn't bother me as much as the prospect of a resurrected (or somehow still living) Bolg. I really dislike that idea.
