Walking Dead Season 2 [In reply to] Can't Post

Prepping for Season 3 and finding that watched back to back the subtleties (which is a laugh when you think the most common way to kill the walkers is to bash their skulls in) of the plots and storylines is more obvious.

I hated the farm, felt like the show was going nowhere but now realize that it was their last attempt to hang onto the past life... throughout the season each character deals with hope vs the desire to just give it all up. And yes the hunt for Sophia went on just a little too long but the whole background story there and the cause and effect of each character's actions is extremely intricate and shows that the writers and producers do have an overall plan. Subtle.... in spite of the head bashing, gut spewing, zombie massacres.

War Horse [In reply to] Can't Post

Spielberg's latest. I liked it a lot, and it's fascinating how well it worked to have a horse as a main character.

have such a great sound. Not just for the 'weird' aspect, they also can sound very like a human voice ("ooo"-ing). I bet they're fiendishly difficult to master though.

well, I guess in my world, nerdy can equal cool! [In reply to] Can't Post

My Elf-man used to have a string tie like this one:

http://www.cattlekate.com/...ong_string_tie1.jpeg

that he wore with his grandfather's old suit coat. He was so cool! :-)

(not sure if you're a Who fan but that line 'bow ties are cool' is one the Doctor says. He also says 'fezzes are cool'. And I think Matt Smith is cool when he says 'bow ties are cool' and 'fezzes are cool'!)

just saw Avengers again at my second run theater [In reply to] Can't Post

It held up pretty well for a repeat viewing. I will definitely be on board for more of these.

I noticed that, during the heat of the battle in NYC, Stark gets knocked out of the sky and is fighting on the ground and he's in front of the shawarma restaurant they are at later.

I might just watch this a third time with closed captions on DVD. It's too bad most of Netflix's DVDs don't have extras. I'd be interested in what kind of extras there are.

I just got the DVD [In reply to] Can't Post

and there's almost nothing as far as extras, just a commentary track and a "making of"featurette. Not the famous gag reel. I'm hugely disappointed and feel very discriminated against as a non- Blu-ray owner.

Pucjed up 'The Avengers' Blu-ray on Tuesday [In reply to] Can't Post

We watched it that night. As others have noted, the bulk of the bonus features are on the Blu-ray disc but not on the DVD.

Also picked up the animated film Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1, adapting the first half of the Frank Miller/Klaus Janson graphic novel. One of the best animated adaptatons of a DC property that I've seen so far. Lacking in bonus features, though, especially since there is no commentary track. I'm hoping for better with the conclusion.

The Hobbit; Them; The Thing [In reply to] Can't Post

I haven't watched The Hobbit in a long time, so I thoroughly enjoyed it and let my imagination run with what Peter might (if at all) use as an homage.

The original films of THEM and The Thing are 2 of my favourites. The 1950s were great for kicking the scifi genre off to a strong start, and these are 2 of the best!

I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

Did you know "THEM" has a Tolkien connection? [In reply to] Can't Post

In one very brief scene, a young Leonard Nimoy takes a printout of a news report off a teletype and makes a sarcastic remark about people making these things up...!

(Hm, I wonder how many of the younger TORnfolks are saying to themselves, "What's a teletype?" Wink)

Those are quite large shoes to fill. Honestly though, Matt Smith was just so damn charming that I couldn't resist. If there were any doubts, I'd say they were gone by the time I watched "The Lodger." I giggled more than an adult female should be giggling Tongue
