The Strain fans - fabuloso news! Can't Post

The first book is being made into a TV series! The script will be written by GDT and Chuck Hogan, and G will direct!

Full story here.

It's a wonderful result for Guillermo. He initially wrote this story as a TV script but it wasn't picked up, so he instead turned it into a book - and now it's going to be on TV as G had originally envisaged. Woohoo!

Let's hope the next two books also get done for TV. :)

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauronís master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Thanks for the heads up Ata! [In reply to] Can't Post

Some time this morning Guillermo said (over at DTF) that they literally just finished negotiating this thing the other day. Right now he's neck deep in extra work (and extra budget) on Pacific Rim since deciding to make it a 3D. (He assured us that at least the CGI will be native 3D, and the conversion is going to take about 4 times longer than usual so they get everything just right.) As such it looks like it will be at least a year before we get a peek.

Anyway, yeah The Strain always seemed like it would make a good TV series because of the way Guillermo structured the novels. I think the industry has a lot more confidence in such projects since the success of The Walking Dead. Not to mention Chuck Hogan is kind of on fire since The Town.

Oh and one more thing, the images that accompany the article at io9 are from a quick and dirty webisode that was released around the time the books came out. Imagine the fx when they actually have time and a budget.

Smile

I'm so pleased for GDT. [In reply to] Can't Post

After his bad luck with The Hobbit and In the Mountains of Madness, I'm stoked he'll get this original work on TV.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

I probably won't be watching it [In reply to] Can't Post

I read the first few chapters of the first part and literally couldn't sleep for days. I'm definitely not watching a live action version of this! Unsure

But YAY for Guillermo Cool

This is the first time i've regretted cancelling my cable [In reply to] Can't Post

but as these things go, it will be out on blu ray soon enough. Thanks for sharing the excellent news with us Strain fans Ataahua ! I'm also looking forward to the graphic novel collections of The Strain comic book adaptation Smile

Good to see some positive news coming from GDT, it was one bad story after the next for a while there. Pacific Rim looks amazing as well, and as a big fan of Japanese monster/robot films (and toys ) I am positively giddy to see GDT make a movie in this genre. Go Guillermo go !

The books [In reply to] Can't Post

gave me the wibblies too, to be honest. But now that I know what the story entails I can reread it without getting freaked.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."
