I quite like this scene [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree that it would've been better is they hadn't slowed it down, but I still enjoy it.

This is one of a few scenes I get distracted by though. As Sam walks through the door, he is the same height as all the others in relation to the door. He's then short in the wide shot Crazy

It's just [In reply to] Can't Post

The flopping, and the creepy laughing, and the slo-motion, all combine to make me run for my life and/or the bathroom. I just can't handle it. Almost as frightening as the Swedish chef from the Muppets, with his terrifying real hands. I mean, he has human hands, and the rest of him is muppet. Downright horrifying.

Please [In reply to] Can't Post

Though I must say, the scene is much less frightening when noone is moving.

In fact, I think I enjoy watching still frames from the LOTR films better than watching the films themselves!

When watching ROTK EE [In reply to] Can't Post

I found that (maybe not so much anymore as I'm aware of it) I would tend to pause for a 'break' at the moment after Faramir retreats to Minas Tirith, when Gandalf says, "Tell me all you know." So for a few times that I watched ROTK, there would come that moment where I find myself paused on this --

I appreciate what PJ was going for [In reply to] Can't Post

or at least what I think he was going for. But, in large part because of the slow motion, he didn't achieve it, IMO. In the very first moment it looked promising: Frodo looking frail but quite angelic, in a sort of Heaven after being in Hell. Then he sits up and says "Gaann - daallf". And it just kills it for me. I don't know what's worse - talking in slo-mo or laughing. Tongue

Oh, yes [In reply to] Can't Post

Showing action in slow-motion is one thing. But dialogue is another.

A truly horrible decision by PJ. Hard to understand why he would find it a satisfying way to execute the scene.

I'm not a big fan of slo-mo either [In reply to] Can't Post

Had everyone stayed quiet and just had the score, the scene would've probably worked nicely. Talking/laughing in slo-mo never really works.

They've done it twice in the latest series of Doctor Who - I didn't really like it then either.

true in the States... [In reply to] Can't Post

They keep movie theaters freezing here. Of course, that makes it a great thing to do on very hot summer days, but I always think the degree of AC is a bit excessive.
