SCOD - Haldir and the Brothers Monotonous Can't Post

Welcome again, everybody, to the second and extremely early post for this week! Today I thought we'd discuss a particularly... plain screencap.

I always like taking a look at the moments that are so brief onscreen. Namely for details like Aragorn and Legolas here.

1.) Is it somewhat unsettling how alike Viggo and Orlando's facial expressions are here? Or not?

2.) Describe what each character is showing here. Extra points if you can distinguish a difference between each of them!

3.) Any other thoughts/comments?

Haldir [In reply to] Can't Post

Was always the most ridiculous-looking character in the films to me. An elf living and sleeping outside, and fighting orcs on a regular basis, yet full of baby fat in his cheeks, as if he was a suburban office-worker.

He also sort of looks like Jon Lovitz.

I wouldn't make a very good elf then ... [In reply to] Can't Post

The stubble shade was always distracting. Could they not have applied more make-up?

Stubble [In reply to] Can't Post

was always most obvious on Celeborn, at least for me. They should have done something.

You wouldnt make a good elf you say [In reply to] Can't Post

Is that due to stubble or baby fat cheeks? lol. Tongue

Since avocardogate i always thought you were slim at least that's what mental image came across. I on the other hand have hardly any stubble but have fat cheeks sadly Frown

Avocardogate! Love it! [In reply to] Can't Post

Strangely enough, I bought avocados the other day and didn't even think of that thread!

I'm probably what you call "normal" size (neither big or small), but have those baby fat cheeks (and the stubble Wink). If they need to re-cast Celeborn or Haldir I'm their man!

Love Craig Parker's voice as Haldir. [In reply to] Can't Post

He had a unique presence and I bought him as someone who would be guarding the borders. He carried himself very well and, again, I can't praise that lovely voice enough. Interestingly, Parker also voiced Elephant Man Orc.

Yep. :) Haldir's actor voiced Gothmog. Didn't know that until recently either. [In reply to] Can't Post

They look like tourists to me! [In reply to] Can't Post

That's kind of the way the scene strikes me -- Haldir, the tour guide, Aragorn and Legolas, taking in the sights...

I am perfectly fine that they cut this scene in the TE -- it's kind of like looking at someone's vacation photos, doesn't do much for you if you didn't go on the trip!

Was PJ mad at these particular actors on this day? [In reply to] Can't Post

It takes some effort to make Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom look not so good Wink An up-the-nose shot is never flattering.

And poor Craig! He's a nice looking fellow as himself, but he's no elf. And this shot just reinforces that fact.

This is an EE shot that was best left out.

Thanks, One Ringer. Hope your busy week goes well Smile

Ha, exactly! [In reply to] Can't Post

This shot has some really poor composition. And anything but this strange, up-the-nose angle would have worked better...

I wonder if it was filmed by a 9th unit director, or something....

Dunno what to think to be frank

2.) Describe what each character is showing here. Extra points if you can distinguish a difference between each of them!

LOL @ this question One Ringer.
Ok, so Aragorn's expression is like: "Right. . . I've been here before, not that special to be honest".
Haldir's is: "oh yeah I'm one of the Galadhrim, go me! go me!" (*happy dance* in his mind) ( or more seriously: "Ahhh my motherland")
Finally Legolas: "Awesome.. . ... ... um, but my father's halls are nicer :P "

3.) Any other thoughts/comments?

Not exceedingly plain IMO :P

Funny shot [In reply to] Can't Post

Aragorn looks suddenly panicked, like he's just realized that he's left the oven on, or he's got a sudden wedgie, or suddenly realised that since he's 'dumped' Arwen that meeting her grandparents might be a bit awkward!

Haldir: Lothlorien!
Legolas: it's only a model
Haldir: shh!
