Tolkien said it. The only named dwarf woman is DIS - ergo, every other dwarf with a name is MALE. Including Bifur. End of....

If you won't accept Tolkien's own statement then there's really no point taking it further. Sorry, but the only uncertainty about the sex of the dwarves is in your head. It isn't in the books.

As to why they haven't announced the last few dwarves, how should I know? But to use that as an argument that they casting women is far too big an imaginative leap. They haven't announced Gandalf, Elrond, Gollum, Beorn, Bard of the Master of Laketown either - do you think they're going to be women?
