of the whole word, so I kind of see representative letters scattered throughout; and then if I'm not careful, I then make an assumption about what it "really" is! But somehow we manage to read and write pretty well anyway, thank goodness . . .

Hadn't thought of that possibility at all; for some reason I had never problems to remember the difference. But that may be because I have encountered these words so many times in the fandom. Even reading fanfiction has its use, it seems Now that you mention it, I see how easy it is to confuse these two terms.
 
I do not suffer from LotR obsession - I enjoy every minute of it.
