Err, sister [In reply to] Can't Post

And here I thought you'd rather be in the OotP, as a certain wizard isn't in the DA! Tongue

Ok, ok, I admit it, same here! Cool

Sure [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't like the MoM before Voldemort's final demise, but as you may remember Molly wanted Fred and George to work there, and we can't be any worse than the second generation of marauders!

I'd think [In reply to] Can't Post

the Sorting Hat recognised their qualities and potential. Though one can sometimes wonder - Pettigrew in Gryffindor seemed even more off the mark.

I'd not forgotten... [In reply to] Can't Post

The sorting hat. But that actually lends further to Rowling writing these novels as she went along and did not plan her grand adventure very far ahead. If the houses had such Vision statements, then the placement of some of the characters is subjective at its best and against the grain at worst. The difficulty in assigning such things is that the potential for all of those things is in each of us and it is up to our choices as to which become the dominant qualities of our lives and even then that can change almost at a moment's notice depending upon the situation at hand.

Imagine for a moment, that Lord Voldemort had managed to get an emissary into Harry's house before he ever went to school and that emissary's sole purpose was to win Harry's confidence and trust. Without ever mentioning Hogwarts or it's faculty that emissary could have guided Harry towards being the sort of lad that would have preferred the company of Draco Malfoy, for example.

As I recall the sorting hat actually wanted to put Harry in Slytherin but Harry, seemingly to me unreasonably, was afraid of Slytherin and did not want to go there and the hat relented. What other choices did the hat make that were collaborative rather than truly judging objectively?

I suppose we could give all the admins actual character names. Hermione, Ginny, Luna, Mrs. Weasley, etc. Something to think about for next year.

Your footnote comment reminded me. A few years back I had someone here on tOR.N tell me that he'd been told I was male, sizty-something, and a retired college English professor. I had a good laugh, since I'm none of those. At the time, I think I was still in my 20s. And I've never taught a college course. I'm a computer geek. The assumptions people make sometimes. =)

That was back when [In reply to] Can't Post

I was still a regular contributor to the Reading Room and when I was posting, every few weeks, in Main some non-Reading Room related post about some topic that came to mind about some facet of the books. I guess I sounded smart and erudite. ;)
