It would be nice if a user could choose to have "Send e-mail notification on reply" be unchecked by default.
Also - I notice that after typing in the Subject title, when you click in the Post box, there is no visible cursor. It took me a few seconds to realize I could just start typing. Not sure if these issues can be addressed or if they are limitations with the board. Neither are biggies, thankfully.

You can change the email default in your profile (It's in the FAQ - 2.18, btw) ;-)

I think the cursor thing is something we have to live with. We won't even notice once we get used to it.

I didn't do that before I started my first thread, but I am still getting email from that despite the new default setting.
I like the new board, interesting mix of threaded and the "flat" style, so I will have to figure out the best way to switch back and forth.

Registered, started posting, got a bunch of email notifications, changed my profile default, stopped getting emails.
And then 10 minutes ago just got another email, out of the blue.

Was the email you received a pm notification or a post reply notification? They have separate settings in your profile.

Yes, I did get another notification.
Perhaps changing the notification settings in your profile only impacts new threads, and not existing threads.
Similar to how an avatar appears to work - it doesn't show up on posts you created prior to assigning one.
