What fun! Here's my drawing I drew as a kid [In reply to] Can't Post

back in *cough* 1970. It's supposed to be Aragorn emerging from the Paths of the Dead:

"For DORA BAGGINS in memory of a LONG correspondence, with love from Bilbo; on a large wastebasket. Dora was Drogo's sister, and the eldest surviving female relative of Bilbo and Frodo; she was ninety-nine, and had written reams of good advice for more than half a century."

I think these are great. It's fun to see early works by other artists. I wish I still had my first LOTR illustrations, dating from when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, somewhere along the line most of those early attempts got lost in the shuffle.

That's an amazing compliment. I"m not an artist by any stretch of the imagination. You're an incredible artist; I was just a kid trying to catch a glimpse of my vision of Aragorn and making a picture of something with reeeeally long arms and legs. (Blandalfthepurple's Witch King has much better proportions.) And isn't that 1970 hairstyle a hoot?

Anyway, thanks for your kind words!

I love the hairstyle. It really captures the time in which it was drawn. But I also love the fact that you've got Arwen's hand-wrought banner in the picture, and the seven stars and the moon, and the fact that Aragorn was very tall and kingly. You can't ask for more than that--a genuine concern for the details of the story, some particular to the scene, some symbolic. This is the way I started, too--so completely taken by the story that I wanted to somehow visualize it on my own. Anyone who picks up a pencil, pen or brush and takes a stab at Tolkien's work has that same thrill, I think.

You are welcome.

really cool! [In reply to] Can't Post

Much better than I could ever draw. I make crooked stick figures :P

My progress so far on my walk to Rivendell
I have traveled 71 miles
I have passed Buckleberry Ferry.
It is 2 miles to the next landmark.
I have 387 miles until I reach Rivendell.
