Melbourne's "The Age" on Viggo Mortensen Can't Post

An interest in the notion that terrible things can happen in an atmosphere of calm lured actor Viggo Mortensen to a new film on Nazi Germany, writes Philippa Hawker. He has come to Australia on a publicity tour for his new film, Good, in which he plays a German professor of literature in the 1930s who finds himself, little by little, seduced by the Nazi Party. It is based on a play by the late British playwright C. P. Taylor that was first performed in 1981.

He wasn't director Peter Jackson's first choice to play Aragorn, the heroic centre of The Lord of the Rings, although it is hard to imagine anyone else in the role. The success of the Middle Earth juggernaut has had a mixture of consequences for Mortensen: it has resulted in the pressure of celebrity and the freedom to make some interesting choices. One of the things it has also allowed him to do is set up a publishing venture, Perceval Press, devoted to bringing out interesting work that might not otherwise have an outlet.

I saw him in Sydney ... [In reply to] Can't Post

He was so nice ...
He has just finished a whirlwind tour here to promote Good - it was a wonderful performance by him ..
The intro sounds very much like another - maybe they have the same intro for each screening ...
He answered so many questions and was so gracious - he stayed over an hour - way past the time he was meant to.

We were asked not to take photos, but I everyone was - though I left the flash off, and the shot wasnt all that good.

So glad he even came here to Sydney and did a promo. I think the Melbourne screening was the next night and he didnt leave the Sydney theatre until about 10:30pm or something like that.
Its only an hour or so to Melbourne, but he was then off somewhere else ...

Cheers
