Results of Discussion Poll and Call for Leaders! Can't Post

Hello, Movie Board Friends!

Well, I’ve tallied the responses from the Poll I did about discussion ideas on this board. Thanks to your feedback, it looks like we are ready to do a lot more around there than play Trivia Games (as fun as they are!)

Overall Comments:
Everyone pretty much wants balance – some quick discussions, some in-depth ones, some old favorites, and some new features.

Quick Discussions:
The top two vote getters under Quick Discussion topics were: Geeky Observations and Questions That Need Answering. It seems to me also that there’s enough interest in the Trivial Pursuit game to keep that going, but I don’t want it to compete with Magpie’s Music Trivia (which are great if you haven’t tried them, even though they take time.) I’d like to continue a Trivia post each week, but to trade off with Magpie when she’s up for this. I do hope more of you try those, as they are really interesting and she sends you a great prize each time you play!

In-depth Discussions:
Restarting Screencap of the Day was the clear winner. There’s enough interest in doing “something” else, but no consensus – people either loved or hated the book themes topic, and those who want technical discussions were split between the various ways we could do that. There was some interest in restarting the Annotated discussions, but not enough to make me think we’d have enough leaders. With drogo’s discussion of Bakshi’s LOTR coming up, I think we should hold on anything else for now. When that’s close to wrapping up, I’ll do another interest post to see what other in-depth topic people would like to focus on.

Proposed Schedule -- How does this look?

Monday: SCOD/Trivia
Tuesday: Questions That Need Answering
Wednesday: SCOD
Thursday: Geeky Observation of the Week
Friday: SCOD
All Week: Another in-depth discussion, starting with Bakshi’s LOTR in April (thank you drogo!)

Where we go from here:

1. Who can lead the Geeky Observation of the Week Discussion? All you’d have to do is contact gramma, get her list, and pick one thing from it to post every Thursday.

2. Who can lead the Questions That Need Answering Discussion? I’m thinking an easy way to do this would be to do one organizing post, asking people to suggest questions, and then just post one of the questions suggested every Tuesday until you run out. Kind of like the way the Caption Contest works on Main – people would send pics to LiJuun in advance, and she would post one a week. You could even put something in a footer asking people to PM you with questions for future discussions

3. I’m willing to keep up the Trivia contests going on Mondays, as long as elvenhobbit keeps helping me! I’ll contact Magpie to see if and when she’s ready to post something, and when she is we’ll have a Music Trivia game for that week instead (even if she does't post on a Monday that week!)

4. Let’s restart SCOD on M/W/F – Mortae said he’d kick back in, and Arwen’s Daughter offered to help with this as well. Mortae/Arwen’s Daughter, can you two organize this?

Please let me know what you think – and please sign up to lead to help get these things get off the ground, and please participate when they do start up!

Thanks everyone – looking forward to some great new things to talk about with all of you!

I'll help 'cover' if needed or required... [In reply to] Can't Post

Elven by name, Hobbit by nature

'Road lead ever on and on
down from the door where it began
now far ahead the road has gone
down from where all began' -FOTR-

and through all the world has changed
the ages come and go with time
and yet those remain unchanged
unto they journey westward
over the sea...

I'm in [In reply to] Can't Post

I PMed Mortae to offer my services with SCOD. If he doesn't need me I'm happy to take up Geeky Obs or Questions that Need Answering if you need leaders. If not, I'm content to just sit back and join the discussions. Cool

Let us know what you and Mort work out, and if you've got time for more after that, by all means let us know that too!

This is going to be fun -- thanks for helping!

I'm up for it! [In reply to] Can't Post

I always enjoy SCoD, but I would be happy to help with Geeky Observations and QTNA, too. I have been forced to lurk a lot lately, but I think I may see the light at the end of my RL tunnel. I'm looking forward to all of this great stuff!

(Formerly Lossefalme3, just in case you're wondering)*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Aragorn threw back his cloak. The elven-sheath glittered as he grasped it, and the bright blade of Andúril shone like a sudden flame as he swept it out. 'Elendil!' he cried. 'I am Aragorn son of Arathorn, and am called Elessar, the Elfstone, Dúnadan, the heir of Isildur Elendil's son of Gondor. Here is the Sword that was Broken and is forged again! Will you aid me or thwart me? Choose swiftly!' TTT, Book III, Chapter 2
And Éomer answered: 'Since the day when you rose before me out of the green grass of the downs I have loved you, and that love shall not fail.' RotK, Book VI, Chapter 5

glad to have your help! [In reply to] Can't Post

Once we know who else is interested, we can divide up the work and make it manageable and fun for all.

Thank you, you always come through -- keep watching this thread to see who else wants to join the team!

A day late & a dollar short - [In reply to] Can't Post

make that a week late and many dollars short - but so what - none of that will probably change, but I'm here and offering to do the 'Questions that need answering" posts, or Geeky list discussions, or I could always find Trivia questions. If there is someything else that may be needed, just let me know.
I hope to start working on a discussion of movie music lyrics or ROTK pick-ups one day, too. Maybe something like that would fit in after Bakshi?
A bit worried about commiting as I can tend to get bogged down, but I'm more frightened not to try. I love the movie board and I don't want it to fade away. Unsure

Thanks, Weaver for all of this brilliant organization. It's easy for geeks to have ideas and want to talk about our favorite stuff, but the work of organizing and leading is hard. You're just the best and have done so much for all of us here!

Let me know if I can support you in any way if you decide to do a music lyrics discussion [In reply to] Can't Post

I often have more information than is published on my website... so much info, so little time.

Now we just have to meet soon. I'm getting all 'cited about this! [In reply to] Can't Post

I think we could do so much with this. The lyrics are fabulous! Some of them are heartbreaking, vivid, emotional, and many are full of power. A lot of the book is in the music. Alot!
I'm off to bed early tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow, I hope.
Many thanks for your offer of collaboration, my dear friend.

Thanks, hob... [In reply to] Can't Post

Glad to have your help as well!

If you can help get some of these started, that would be great. After that, I hope you'll follow your heart and take on the ROTK pick-ups and lyrics! Those would be great additions to this board.

I am going to PM you and others who have volunteered, so we can get things moving. More later!
