Orion (Artemis) live moon orbit feed! Can't Post

For all you Astronomy/Space nuts, self included.Smilehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKIGMZv2oIo

I just watched it go across the dark side, and then the sunrise. I know it's going very, very fast, but the rate at which the moon "goes by" really shows up how small the moon is, compared to earth, even though it's very big for a moon (some sources even call the Earth-Moon system a double planet).

At times, you can see little balls of light that are reflections. Once, there was a reddish one of a size I though might possibly be Mars, but then it moved over the surface of the moon . . .

Thanks [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the link!

It would be really great if they would over maps and Apollo landing sites on the image.

The "Dark" Side [In reply to] Can't Post

The "dark side of the Moon" is a bit of a misnomer, though. There is no dark side in the way the phrase is often used; the far side of the Moon gets just as much sunlight as the nearer side to us. I think you already know that?

"dark" to us since most of that side always faces away.

Oh, yes. I did find these: [In reply to] Can't Post

But I don't think you can zoom in enough for any of them to be very helpful. Although with enough time to watch the video (overandoverandoverandover!), it might be possible to pick something out.

Still not really accurately described.

"Matter . . . dark." [In reply to] Can't Post

That's it! It's made of dark matter, and here they've been looking all over the universe for it! AngelicWink

There's Dark and tThere's Dark. [In reply to] Can't Post

Since the far side is facing away form us it is "radio dark". It is shielded from electromagnetic signals from Earth.

Yes, thanks, that's exactly what I meant. :) [In reply to] Can't Post

Didn't mean to confuse by a euphemism.
I wonder if that impact crater from the Chinese rocket is visible in this video.

I have a family connection [In reply to] Can't Post

My cousin's son-in-law is one of the rocket scientists responsible for Orion. (Her daughter is a rocket scientist too.) So we're all paying close attention.

That's wonderful having a family connection. [In reply to] Can't Post

Are they giving you any inside information (not classified, of course)?
I'd give anything to be a passenger on the next one.
