Wheel of Time has the advantage of being adapted from a complete work.

LOTR or whatever it will be named - is being written from the ground up with only scaffolding to go by for guidance.

Both are big budge Amazon series. From the trailers of WOT I am impressed and think it will be quite good.

Nothing really to see from LOTR other than a few stills.

At this early point, I give WOT a 90% chance of success.
LOTR.....I am somewhat optimistic but also wary of some of influences creeping in.......60% just based on a built in fan base.

LOTR vs WOT [In reply to] Can't Post

My first post after a looooong while. Smile

Before seeing any LOTR footage we have no way of knowing how well it's gonna turn out and do. I'd guess, though, considering some of the talent involved, it'll do alright. Of course i'm hoping for more, we'll see.

WOT, while looking forward to it, i still have some reservations. Visually, at least, it gives off that cheap "TV look" vibe sometimes. Like a Shannara Chronicles. It's the cinematography that just doesn't seem to be up to par. I hope LOTR can do better.

Both? [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't really see any reason why both shows wouldn't have success.

Never Been a Fan of Wheel of Time [In reply to] Can't Post

From what I have seen of "Wheel of Time" I am not likely to become a fan of the series (though i will probably watch it). As to the Amazonn"s Rings of Power, I will take a wait-see approach. I think that it has a fair chance of being great, especially it it sticks to Tolkien's outline and doesn't forget it is part of Middle-earth.

The WoT show is pretty bad, IMHO. The characters act without much regard for logic or internal consistency. The source text is used more as a database of proper nouns rather than a beat sheet to be followed by the series. The special effects and sets often reuse the same furniture or locations which is very jarring. For instance, there is a cave set in the show with a sacred pool inside it. Later, that same set is reused to torture the False Dragon, except it's not the same cave. It's hundreds or thousands of miles away, but it looks identical. You'll see furniture from the White Tower in a random Inn. It's just cheap and lazy. Anyway, WoT really has me worried for the LotR show.
