UK film crews and Amazon LOTR project Can't Post

Variety

Quote
“There’s almost a catastrophic shortage of not just directors but of anybody involved in the production of moving image,” says Big Talk’s Allen. “There is a shortage across the board, from line producers, accountants, makeup designers, gaffers, DoPs. And then if you look at something like ‘Lord of the Rings’ arriving into the U.K. from New Zealand, with half a billion pounds’ worth of production to spend — there aren’t enough people.”

I'm not sure Darren Bevas at the Dominion has figured out from the Variety article that it isn't the Amazon production that will face crew shortages.

I think Stuff.NZ have special pleading here [In reply to] Can't Post

Its convenient for them to present the move to the UK as troublesome. Sure, they have a producer complaining about lack of personnel, but if you know anything about producers and filmmakers is that they've been complaining about inadequate funds, time and personnel since time immemorial.

I'm sure the production will find all the working hands it needs.

They've localised the story, certainly. [In reply to] Can't Post

NZ readers wouldn't be particularly interested in a story about worker shortage for UK productions unless there was a local angle, and the quote that mentions in passing Amazon's LOTR production was enough to hang an article on.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.
