Yes! You have it now! [In reply to] Can't Post

And you've got yourself up to speed on it in no time! Pun intended, of course. Congratulations on your new toy/conveyance/thing!

Soup is good! [In reply to] Can't Post

That kind of weather calls for it. I've got turkey soup to make tomorrow - the stock is waiting, the meat is shredded, just add veggies and make some bread for it. Speaking of sweet potatoes, my eldest is here, and she'll be making sweet potato quick bread.

What! Your Christmas shopping is all done? Now you can concentrate on the knit decorations! Smile

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving, Evey! [In reply to] Can't Post

We had such a nice celebration at Mom-in-law's in the Berkshire Hills (Massachusetts). A sister-in-law and I made the fixins' at our homes and reheated them there. Two of my three kids were with us (eldest drove out from Chicago), and we sprang an aunt from her assisted-living facility to join us.

This noon we took a walk through a gentle snowfall of big, fluffy flakes before driving back home to chilly rain. It's typically 10F colder there than near the shoreline at this time of year. And of course I had taken only a heavy fleece sweater along - that was a chilly walk for me!

By the clever device of forgetting my smartphone [In reply to] Can't Post

I wrangled three pieces of pie in two days from my friends. I really did forget it -- I had it out showing cat pictures and left it on the side table. Considering that the Otterbox case is schoolbus yellow, overlooking it was quite a trick.
OT: A 14-year-old friend of a friend found her father dead of an apparent heart attack Monday. I've been providing some unofficial counseling and legal advice. What a tragic time of year to be orphaned. Please give your loved ones an extra hug or Zoom kiss.
Glad to hear everyone else's good news.

That is sobering. [In reply to] Can't Post

Prayers and hugs for that child, her family, and friends! What a heartache to have to endure anytime, but this season is the hardest! Frown It's good that you've been there to help her. Heart

Meanwhile, I shall have to remember that "trick" with the pie...

Whittled a goodly amount [In reply to] Can't Post

There's half the 12x15' unit to weed through (fitting into 10x12' unit). The problem is 85% of the stuff to move are boxes of all sizes, garbage bags of clothes/toys, trunks of books, and way too much loose stuff. There's no rhyme or reason to it. It means stacking things well over 7' high that are perilously unstable and tedious to move. It's 34 degrees out. I'm on my way out the door now :)

no major damage to our properties [In reply to] Can't Post

though quite a few trees and fences are down in the area. The remaining flowers in the garden were blasted and the paths swept clear of leaves very efficiently! We're in a cold northerly airstream, though no snow here like they have in some highland areas. Hot chocolate weather, I think!

Already back to work? [In reply to] Can't Post

Even if it's a shortened schedule... it seems awfully soon. I hope you're able to pace yourself and can take a break if you need to. But that's hard if you're the only one there. Good Luck!

And I'm so happy you all had such a great time for Thanksgiving :D It's great how everyone chipped in. Marathoning LotR? EXCELLENT!!!

Hang in there!

My kids said the same thing about the movies holding up [In reply to] Can't Post

Given how heavy they relied on special effects, they look pretty good. And I don't think there is another place on Earth that embodies Middle Earth than New Zealand. It really is magical.

Isn't it lovely to have those out of town kids home? It's such a treat to look out over the table and see the adults they are becoming.

Back to work on Monday. I'll work Monday and Tuesday, have PT on the way home on Tuesday, work Wednesday, Off on Thursday but still have PT, work Friday and Saturday. Off Sunday. Rinse. Repeat. I stood for a few hours making rolls and pies and then dinner, but not all at once. I had to wrap and ice it by the evening while we were on video chat with our eldest. So we'll see. Fingers crossed.

LOTR marathon was excellent! [In reply to] Can't Post

Kids home. Priceless!

Back to work Monday. I work in a small independent pharmacy. Anyone out for too long puts a strain on the rest of the staff. But there is little I can do to change or accomodate my knee. When I'm there, I'm on my feet running around. We'll see how it goes. The upside? We sell those ice packs that you can wrap around a knee. I'll be wearing that on my hour commute home. Then I'll text my daughter from the garage to come and help me out of the car! Laugh

Leftovers are the best! [In reply to] Can't Post

We're finishing the last of it today.

That bait-and-switch for the storage shed sounds familiar. College friends of my son had that happen to them too. Honestly, what people will do to make a buck. I hope you took it easy and didn't over do. It's easy to get started and just ry to power though.

Re: Walk to Rivendell. I'll be back! PT guy said I should still keep my goal of hiking the Maryland section of the AT so that will be my goal. I'll really rack up the miles that way. I already walk 2 miles a day at work. Once I'm back on my feet (so to speak), I can start training!

Well done on the gift prep! [In reply to] Can't Post

Definitely a well-earned "phew"! I'm about done; but this past year has been pretty pricey for my whole family, so we've pledged to keep it simple and any gifts are homemade and modest. We've done it that way for years; but since there's a change in kids at home, etc... it's easier to stick to simplicity.

I hope the high winds haven't mess you up too much or done any damage to your garden... and there was no power outages. That's usually a sure thing in high wind storms around here.

Soup and crafting sounds perfect! Have a great weekend!!!

Well deserved after a huge job well done. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm just learning how much of a pain it is to be an executor. It must be such a lift to the spirits to have it all behind you. Writing that email must have felt like clearing the rest of the cobwebs.

And with the shoulder getting better each day, you're ready.

On to better things!

Salud!

Bonus if it's near water. I don't know what it is, but the coolness of the shade and the protection of the canopy, I always feel like I'm in another world. I'm so glad to hear you can experience that with your new conveyance!

That soup sounds wonderful! [In reply to] Can't Post

And perfect for the weather. We had a cold day with the winds picking up. Soup was definitely on the menu. Hubby had been cooking more now since the pandemic. I'm still out working and he's working from home. That Instant Pot was one of the best presents I ever gave him (and me!). He's getting to be quite a master. His Chicken and White Bean Chili is divine!

Glad the weather didn't do any damage and but did help with the leaves!

Good to see you! Hope all's well and you had a nice Thanksgiving.

It's been a much needed 4 days off from work. Lots of lounging, relaxing, and food. I fly home this coming Friday to visit family for 3ish weeks, with a quick weekend trip first to St. Louis with a couple of friends.

Hope everyone had a great long weekend!

Oh Elanor... that's tragic for the young girl [In reply to] Can't Post

My brother was 14 and with my Dad when he suddenly died the same way. For you to be there to help her is hard for you, but also therapeutic as you help her get her head and heart around what happened and is still happening. You must be exhausted. *hugs*

I don't think it was an accident that you forgot your phone. The pieces of pie are a little "slice" of comfort and goodness for you to take a mini break from everything that's been going on. :) I hope your Thanksgiving was also a nice break. :) *more hugs*

How Great!! :D I hope the weather is cooperating for your flights. It looks like the whole US is in pretty good shape for travel with only a few iffy spots. Usually there's GOT to be some huge storm that messes with roads and flights... so this is a nice change :)
