Well... [In reply to] Can't Post

If there's any truth at all in this Orcs vs Numenorean battles in the first season we can at least write of the somewhat wild speculations that season 1 would deal mainly with a Silmarillion backstory.

I wonder if they will have a lot of flash backs to earlier historical events - if allowed by [In reply to] Can't Post

Númenóreans vs. Orcs [In reply to] Can't Post

when in the Second Age would the Númenóreans have first battled Orcs? Their first conflicts. It seems as though it would have had to be the end of the War of the Elves and Sauron. The next conflicts for the Men of Númenor would have mainly involved the indigenous Men of Middle-earth who took issue with the destruction of much of their woodland.

Good question.....here is a timeline to pick a date from.... [In reply to] Can't Post

https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/Second_Age

600 First Númenórean ships sail to Middle-earth.....what happened?

1200 Sauron deceives the Ñoldor in Eregion, but Gil-galad mistrusts him; the Númenóreans begin building permanent havens in Middle-earth at Lond Daer and other places.

1700 Minastir sends a great navy under Ciryatur to Lindon and he is victorious at the Battle of the Gwathló.
Sauron's forces retreat from Eriador and are practically destroyed.

c. 1800 Númenor begins establishing permanent settlements in Middle-earth.

2280 Umbar is founded by the Númenóreans.
2350 Pelargir is built by the Elendili.

3261 Ar-Pharazôn sails to Middle-earth landing at Umbar, and takes Sauron captive.

3429 Sauron attacks Gondor, his forces conquer Minas Ithil and burn the White Tree.
Isildur sails to Arnor while Anárion defends Osgiliath.

3434 Sauron's forces are defeated in the Battle of Dagorlad.

Post-1800 (S.A)? [In reply to] Can't Post

If we have (as described) Orcs attacking a Númenórean settlement then this must at least be sometime after the year 1800 of the Second Age. As this seems to be for the first season of the show, I don't think that it could be very much later than that unless the show is skipping around to various time periods.

Maybe 1700 [In reply to] Can't Post

"The Battle of the Gwathló was the final battle of the War of the Elves and Sauron, fought between the forces of Sauron and the combined forces of Gil-galad and Tar-Minastir. It ended in a serious defeat for the Dark Lord forcing him to retreat to Mordor."

Yes, but... [In reply to] Can't Post

...I don't think that there would have yet been any Númenórean villages that Orcs could have attacked. That battle does not fit with the scene that has been described.

Not all orcs need to be under Sauron's command [In reply to] Can't Post

Far as I remember, there's nothing ruling them out as being around in the early Second Age as minor brigands or warlords.

Very true! [In reply to] Can't Post

My point is that Orcs can't attack a Númenórean village in Middle-earth that should not exist in that time period (the early Second Age). Now, this might be later or the village might belong to kin of the Men of the West who never went to Númenor.

Now, this might be later.

This is the correct option.
