Summer 2021 approaches...any 4K Ultimate Collector's edition news? Can't Post

So at the end of 2020 as we approached the release of the 4K sets, it was also reported that an ultimate collector's edition would be released in summer 2021. Well, with June nearly upon us, summer is here and I haven't heard anything else about this special edition since it was reported about last December.

Has any news been released on this front? I'm assuming no news means delays, but you never know. I haven't bought the 4K set yet because I decided to wait for the ultimate edition supposedly to be released this summer.

I’m waiting to hear about this too [In reply to] Can't Post

I’m assuming no news means delayed or cancelled. Hoping for the best though!

the fire of Fëanor, Light of Morn
before the sun and moon were born,
thus out of bondage came at last,
from iron to mortal hand it passed."

Curious... [In reply to] Can't Post

What would be in them... Ultra extended films or just more extras? Cool

The latter [In reply to] Can't Post

Jackson had wanted to include a reel of deleted scenes since the 2011 Blu-rays.

Warner Home Media have recently updated their logos and these appear to be the ones for LotR and The Hobbit. Not sure where they'll be used, perhaps streaming or the upcoming Blu-rays?

Apparently there will be no Appendices... [In reply to] Can't Post

Huge bummer Frown

I just want the Extended Editions presented as they were on DVD, similar cases and menus, but with the remastered films. I really don't like the box art for the current 4K sets.

The appendices are there [In reply to] Can't Post

The appendices are included on all 4K versions: you just access them via streaming as opposed to physical media: you can reach them via the digital code that comes with the set.

Unlike the movie itself, the picture quality of the appendices is such that it doesn't really look any worse for being streamed: I mean, The Lord of the Rings' appendices are in standard definition!

The collector's edition will include new extras: presumably a "reel" of deleted scenes.

What on earth is up with those logos? [In reply to] Can't Post

Blue hues and lack of gold completely inappropriate for how all of those intros were designed– and what is going on with that MGM lion? Why is the framerate stuttering? Why do the letters appear out of nowhere?

Glad I have basically all the editions that were published before these logos were updated.

I think those are just fan-made [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm sure they won't go on the movies.

They look terrible.

That Warner Bros logo [In reply to] Can't Post

How cool would this set be... [In reply to] Can't Post

How cool would it be if the box art for this ultimate set was designed by Alan Lee or John Howe. That would be a day one pre-order for me.

The bad cover art has really put me off these new editions. I still only own the Extended DVD's because I just don't see the point of owning a physical version if I don't like how it looks on my shelf.

I would think [In reply to] Can't Post

That the point of owning a physical copy would be to have the highest quality possible version of a film.

Though I have been tempted to purchase the DVDs again, just to put the 4Ks in the original DVD packaging.

Yes and no... [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, of course the main reason to buy physical is the quality, but with download quality getting better, and the overall convenience and value, it gets harder to justify.

When you consider the 4K versions are available for £3 each to download, and in HD they're streamable for free (with subscription) compared to a £70 box set which doesn't even have all the bonus features and cheap looking box art, it makes you question what it is you're paying for and why you want to own it. There has to be more incentive than the slight quality improvement. For the current price these should be attractive collector pieces with exclusive content or features and premium presentation.
