Why does Bilbo always put the ring on his middle finger throughout the trilogy? It's just weird. Did Frodo also do this in the LOTR movies?

Maybe it just felt more secure on Bilbo's largest finger.
In the book the Ring could shrink or expand, but it that mentioned in the movies?
Can''t remember about Frodo, even when I try to picture which finger he lost. I want to say it was the middle finger. Maybe I need to watch LOtR again.

We do see the Ring shrink after it is cut from Sauron's hand.

Seems like in the movies Frodo usually put it on his index finger, but it's been a while. I can't say that he always did.
Edit: and it was definitely his index finger that Gollum used for a chew toy.

but if you recall, Galadriel wore Nenya on her middle finger too.
Frodo and Gandalf, however, wore it on their index fingers.
Thranduil wears that big spider ring on his left index, and has two intricate ones on the other hand- one on his ring finger, one on his index (so presumably, since he was married (elves don't count ME death as being "dissolution of vows" since they get reembodied in Valinor and can be reunited again), the right index at least was his wedding ring (see next point):
And elves wear their wedding rings on their right index fingers, according to LACE (Laws and Customs of the Eldar- HOME IX Morgoth's Ring).
The one consistency I see (Thranduil being one exception with that third ring on his right ring finger) is that no one in Middle-earth seemed to wear rings on the fourth finger, which is most common in the modern world today (like wedding ring on left fourth finger, etc). Tolkien definitely seemed to want to steer clear of our usual connotations for which finger rings go on for ME. It's an interesting, yet subtle detail that seems to mean nothing, but rather is one of the many subtle details that make ME seem like it really could be a real ancient world, and not just a tale
