Amazon’s Lord of the Rings adds more actors and more roles revealed

From Redanian, some interesting new leaks of information - including a new young actor Anson Boon (aged 20) who appeared most recently in the feature film 1917 but has also had past roles in The Alienist and other productions, as well as Ben Fransham, a Kiwi actor who actualy played minor roles in both the original trilogy and the Hobbit. Other information as well about Merrells's role and Megan Richards. Full article here at the link (a few excerpts below): https://redanianintelligence.com/2020/05/22/amazons-lord-of-the-rings-adds-another-actor-and-two-more-roles-revealed/
Just like many other projects, Amazon’s hugely ambitious Lord of the Rings prequel series was forced to halt production in March 2020 due to the current Coronavirus pandemic. Filming of the first two episodes was reportedly nearing completion in New Zealand, after which the show was scheduled to go on a 4-5 month hiatus, allowing the writing team to map out the already confirmed second season. As Deadline reports, the shutdown is likely to segue into that period with filming to resume after the hiatus. The bad news being, fans will likely have to brace for a time of relative silence as far as big productions updates are concerned. As for the good news, we can still expect some casting tidbits and other revelations – which may or may not help us to make sense of the bigger picture – to trickle through. Today’s article comes with a few such discoveries we recently made. We have it on very good authority that Anson Boon has joined the cast of The Lord of The Rings. While his role remains unspecified, the young British actor has a certain ethereal look and we could easily see him as a young elf. Boon has had roles in various film and television productions such as Crawl, The Alienist and most recently Amazon’s The Feed. He will also appear as a series regular in the upcoming thriller series Shadowplay, alongside Taylor Kitch and Michael C. Hall. Next up is Ben Fransham, a name that may be familiar to die-hard fans of the original The Lord of The Rings trilogy. Sharing a long history with the franchise, the Kiwi actor has played minor parts in Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of The Rings and The Two Towers, appearing as an elven warrior and an Uruk-hai. Years later, he was also involved in The Hobbit trilogy, both as a stunt performer and playing a goblin. We have learned that Fransham will be back for Amazon’s The Lord of The Rings, probably in a similar capacity if his resumé is anything to go by.

which would give it a credence we haven't yet seen with the other actors as far as who's playing who. I've updated the Wikipedia page accordingly. It seems pretty clear to me that the names are indeed codenames. Oren smacks of Sauron and, if certain character descriptions floating around the web are to be believed, Eldien is Galadriel, reported to be played by Morfydd Clark.

I would certainly hope those names are codenames

Especially since the one for Megan Richards' character, "May", sounds very much like a name for a hobbit - and I don't want to see any hobbits in the series, unless there's a very good reason for it.

Well, a Númenórean anyway. The Dúnadan Rangers don't come into play for a few thousand years.

Fellowship of Fans, on YouTube, has passed along more rumored castings from Instagram (no direct link was provided). Both are NZ actresses: Georgie Oulton and Lara Liew (who is also a dance choreographer). No roles for the two woman have been disclosed. We'll have to see if this pans out.

Thanks for the information. Georgie Oulton was in the group photo of the runners that Nazanin Boniadi posted on Instagram just before the suspension of filming. At the time, she was supposedly working on another film, but some people speculated, given her presence in the photo, that she also had a role in the Amazon series. It looks like that speculation was true, or at least, that it became true. Her details may be found here. Lara Liew's details may be found here.

Maybe they were waiting for more supporting evidence before reporting the rumor here or at the main page. We'll see if Cliff or Justin brings it up during tomorrow's TORN Tuesday livestream.
