*KICKS OPEN DOOR* It's time for FIESTA FRIDAY!!!!
|

|
Welcome to Fiesta Friday!!! All of the bar mistresses are distracted by RL duties; but we just couldn't wander away without giving you a chance to put in your order for something awesome to drink! That made me think of what our movie peeps like to drink. A lot of beer and coffee and such seems to have a big run in loads of films. What have you noticed is a "reach for it" favourite?
Pan Galactic Garble Blaster in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the most beloved BEER for Thor and Gimli. What's your favourite drink? Mine is either a chocolate milkshake or my diet Café Vienna. Let me know what it is, and I'll do my best to snag one for you when I get back from the dentist. Yes... sadly... the dentist. I'd rather be here! And do tell on what you've been up to and what your plans are for the weekend! CHEERS!

And I hope you come home with more than 6! 'Thirty white horses on a red hill, First they champ, Then they stamp, Then they stand still.' That was all he could think of to ask – the idea of eating was rather on his mind. It was rather an old one, too, and Gollum knew the answer as well as you do. ‘Chestnuts, chestnuts,’ he hissed. ‘Teeth! teeth! my preciousss; but we has only six!’ My go-to drink this summer has been Dunkin Donuts' Mocha Latte. Somehow it just hits the spot on hot days, or pretty much any day. Hmmm--weekend plans? Social distancing, wearing a mask, walking, reading, watching TV, not getting the plague. Fun! My favorite sport to watch is football, but since I'm hungry for something "live" besides the news, I'm going to look for any sport being played: baseball, basketball, even stamp collecting. I did get a treat a couple weeks ago to seeing capoeira being taught in the park across the street, and I think they'll be out there every Saturday for awhile. They certainly didn't mind spectators. It's semi-popular in my part of Boston due to the many Brazilians here and is a no-contact martial art that looks like behind-the-scenes fighting in Hollywood: people aim kicks at faces and swing punches in a choreographed way that leaves plenty of room for them to be avoided, so it's closer to dancing than a martial art, I guess. But in how many waltzes do you take a swing at your partner? I'm describing it badly; for anyone truly curious, best to watch a short clip on youtube, and you'll get the idea.

Something from north of the border, I think - Harviestoun's 'Bitter and Twisted' is just the thing for a summer's evening; although that sounds more appropriate for Loki than Thor, who might be more at home with the Orkney brewery's 'Skull-splitter'! Quiet weekend ahead here; my friend's away so I'm in charge of any watering that needs doing on her allotment. From midweek I think nature might oblige; there are thunderstorms forecast.Today I've been looking after the family dog while they all went for a bike ride along part of the North Wales coast, taking advantage of the good weather. Hope the trip to the dentist was without incident; one of my least favourite things, it has to be said - but unless I want to live on soup in my dotage, I'll have to look after the teeth I have left!

Let's just say there are as many in there as when I showed up... just shinier :D *applause* What fun from the dark riddles! Those moves in the Park definitely sound like a form of dance to me. Not much different than ballet for high kicks and full-body extensions. You should get out there and see what kind of damage you could do! Now... isn't bird watching a sport? Whatever you can find, I hope the weather is perfect and the action satisfying. Have a great one!!!

They're all lucky that you're around to help make their adventures a bit more care free. Each of these "charges" are easy enough if not outright pleasant; but I hope you're not putting off plans of your own! I love having shared responsibilities, though. Knowing when your turn comes, your friend will water and watch your plantings, too. I hope you have some adventure this weekend that gives you a chance to enjoy the fine weather, too. I have to get outside myself tonight to take a walk in our very pleasant weather :D Have a great weekend, m'dear!

I don't think I've strayed more than 20 mins drive from home since the start of lockdown in March. Places are opening up a bit more now, but I think the confidence of a lot of people, myself included, has taken a knock from all the government's 'stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives' messaging. (That, and a lot of public toilets being closed!) Even a day out seems a bit excessive. I don't want to take unnecessary risks, but neither do I wish to dwindle into a hermit, so I'll have to get out and about sometime - especially in case lockdown is re-imposed, as it has been in several parts of NW England, and I no longer have the option!

It has lime juice in it, which is a fruit, so that makes it healthy, right? After a week of reasonably warm temperatures we've got another cold snap. It is, after all, winter, but I did enjoy feeling warmer for a while. **sigh** I went out to dinner last night with two sibs and a sister-in-law. We're not sure how much longer we'll be able to do this as my sister is still trying to get back to Perth, having been in NZ since near the end of March. There's a lot of rigmarole to get through involving permits, available flights, quarantine and the like but she's desperate to get back to her family over there. And once she's back in Perth, who knows when we'll next be together? The builder's been back, this time to replace the guttering on the house - and he found *more* rot. I had got someone else in about three or four years ago to fix a leak in that spot and clearly he did the fix and nothing else, like checking to see if there was any damage. At least it's getting fixed now but man, it ticks me off when I rely on experts and they half-arse a job. Anyway, may everyone's weekends be relaxing and joyful. Cheers!

I filled the tank of my hobbity SUV and drove just under half the distance it would take me, then came back home. That way I didn't need to make any stops except maybe a rest station ;) Just getting out and seeing some farmlands, trees, and sky was wonderful!

I'm going to make it fancy for you. I'm so glad you got to go out with your sibs and sis-in-law. You're absolutely right that you should take advantage of being together before she goes home. I can't imagine being away from her family for so long! Now you have to pay for that repair TWICE!? If the first guy didn't do it right, then you are doing it twice. You SHOULD be able to trust the work/worker when you have hired them for their expertise. I've had the same thing... and it's maddening. I hope this is the last time you have to worry about it. Hang in there... and have a great weekend :)

Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts, that is - I'm at Mom-in-law's this weekend. Fortunately this state is not on the Connecticut restricted travel list. And my house is among those which did NOT lose power from the storm last week - so many little outages all around us, from downed trees especially, and many are still out! Hm. A drink? You're all welcome to join me for morning coffee on Mom's front porch here, the sidewalk going past the house is actually part of the Appalachian Trail, as it meanders between woodlands, offering hikers a town to get a meal and supplies. But she's seen no one hiking this summer yet. I hope the dentist was gentle - was it just a routine cleaning? We're thinking of walking the rail trail near here today. We've walked bits of the Appalachian in the past, but we didn't bring our sturdy hiking boots, and you DO need those for parts of it!

My favorite drink is a gin & tonic. Used to have it made with Bombay gin but now I'm hooked on Hendrick's Midsummer Solstice gin, with its flowery taste. Not sure where the last week went! I was in a virtual conference all last weekend (so tiring to Zoom all day long) and it sparked a new book idea that I've had to honor all this week, plus I'm supervising an MFA student at Rose Burford College and had to review her thesis outline and proposal, answer a lot of questions that came in about my talk last week, discuss another book idea with a would-be co-author, and find time for a couple of actual face-to-face (well apart) social events. Five of us had a widely separated lunch on a friend's deck and toured her garden, and yesterday a couple we've known forever came to bring us some Dungeness crab caught on their recent sail around the San Juan Islands. (I am here to tell you that Dungeness crab from the Salish Sea is THE BEST crab in the world. Yes, I've had blue crab. Yes, I've had Alaskan king crab. No contest.) It was such a delight to get to be with people in real life! Today my household is going for antibody testing as part of a county-wide study on the prevalence of COVID. We're pretty representative as one of us is in his 20s, I'm in my 60s, and Dad is 96.

Slipping in late, but I know the bar is always open :) At this very moment a flat white is most appealing, but there'll be a nice drop of rosé with lunch. PG-ish sheep-related content follows: Our younger two ewes have come on heat recently. To explain exactly how we can tell would veer from PG towards M, but let's just say they've been very playful with each other. When Betty gets thoroughly wound up in her excitement, she leaps into the air from a standing start and jumps sideways. She did that yesterday without seeming to notice that she was standing near their water trough - and she ended up right in the middle of the trough! She jumped out just as quickly, and stood around looking... well... sheepish :) They do provide us with a lot of entertainment. There are more lambs arriving every day on the farms surrounding us, and we went for a long walk yesterday at the farm park I've posted about previously, which meant walking among lots of gamboling little lambs. At home, our daffodils are putting on perhaps their best show ever. It's still too chilly to feel liek spring, but it certainly looks like it. I went to the Big City this week for the first time in ages, for an optometrist's checkup (all is well). I was reminded of why I avoid the big city :) Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend.

What a wonderful land to live in. It's surprising there hasn't been more "foot traffic" by now; but very understandable. I hope you took an easy walk to at least enjoy the peace. Here are some mugs to take along in case you make it out :) Not having to share it with others isn't a bad thing :) Tell your mom-in-law I said HI! Dentist usually has been just a cleaning for the past *counts fingers* 30 years. BUT this trip (because covid-skip at 6 month check), they found a spot at the gum/bone spot behind a back molar. They wanna scrape it! I have no idea what that all means... I'm assuming something unpleasant; but I'll find out in the morning (Monday). I've been very lucky so far, so it's not surprising this 68yo mouthful should be challenged. I hope the rest of your weekend is as pleasant and inviting as it has been so far :D CHEERS!

What an exhausting week! Wow! I haven't done zoon, but I imagine it's so much harder than in-person meetings since you have to keep an eye on each box/occupant and try not to talk over each other followed by absent pauses. I'll bet you really REALLY wanted to get down the inspired book ideas. I think your muse chose that busy time to step in and save your sanity! I hope your next week(s) is calmer and you can have some YOU time. The crabs sound awesome! I've developed a love of them; but only have access to the grocery store freezer :P Hang in there and have a great week!

I've had that done - you're numb enough when they do it, but sore afterward, and you might need a stitch or two. It's a preventative, they want you to keep that tooth! We ended up having a picnic with Mom, it was so nice outside on Saturday that we spent time at a park overlooking a lake, with distant views of Mt. Greylock (highest peak in Massachusetts). And later having an outdoors visit with an aunt who lives in a nursing home which has never been touched by that virus; we hadn't talked with her in too long. I hope you've had a not-too-hot weekend!
