So well said. This is also why I am so drawn to this story. Moments like this still brings quiet tears. I'm standing there with them. This whole time on the hill transports me... and I love that Frodo can "see" Aragorn as he was/is at that moment.

Thanks for that press release, Gramma. It reminded me of my fan trepidation in 1999 that gonzo directors and inexperienced actors would make another mediocre, forgettable Tolkien movie like Bakshi and R&Bass. Always good when trepidation turns to awe at an epic!
It also made me reflect that though Elijah Woods never replaced my internal image of Frodo the way some actors did (Sean Bean for Boromir, e.g.), in any interview I've seen him in for the last 20 years, Elijah seems like a truly kind-hearted person in real life, so in that sense, he is Frodo, especially when I think of Frodo's mercy to Gollum over their long journey and his mercy to Saruman at Bag End, or for that matter, Frodo's treatment of Sam. It takes no imagination to think that that's something Elijah would do in real life. Some ideas take awhile to age on me.

I was terrified of what they'd do to LotR on film; but everything I saw between discovering the films were coming (summer 2001) and finally seeing them was incredible... then true :)
You're right about Elijah's kindness. In every interview (even years before), he was very kind, open, and fun. I've met him 3 times in very hectic settings, and he was always very generous, patient and took each person individually... his attention very enthusiastic and involved. I find that each of our characters' hosts really did take on the personalities of their literary characters.

Here's part 1 of a 2-part Book Spoiler of the Dwarves camping out... for a moment of Tolkien-zen.
From Roast Mutton: The Hobbit
... "Soon it was nearly dark. The winds broke up the grey clouds, and a waning moon appeared above the hills between the flying rags. Then they stopped, and Thorin muttered something about supper, "and where shall we get a dry patch to sleep on?"
... Not until then did they notice that Gandalf was missing. So far he had come all the way with them, never saying if he was in the adventure or merely keeping them company for a while. He had eaten most, talked most, and laughed most. But now he simply was not there at all!
... "...Just when a wizard would have been most useful, too," groaned Dori and Nori...
... They decided in the end that they would have to camp where they were... ... they knew that they soon would have to camp regularly... ...it seemed a bad wet evening to begin on... ...the wind shook the rain off the leaves, and the drip, drip, was most annoying. Also the mischief seemed to have got into the fire. Dwarves can make a fire almost anywhere out of almost anything, wind or no wind; but they could not do it that night, not even Oin and Gloin, who were specially good at it...."

Bilbo was sadly reflecting that adventures are not all pony-rides in May-sunshine, when Balin, who was always their look-out man, said: "There's a light over there!' There was a hill some way off with trees on it, pretty thick in parts. Out of the dark mass of the trees they could now see a light shining, a reddish comfortable-looking light...
... ...When they had looked at it for some while, they fell to arguing. Some said "no" and some said "yes." Some said they could but go and see, and anything was better than little supper, less breakfast, and wet clothes all the night."
