Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announces new LOTR mobile strategy game

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetEase, Inc. have announced a partnership to develop a strategy game for mobile platforms. The game is titled "The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War", and is set in the Third Age. Whether the game only covers the War of the Ring or a larger portion of the Third Age is not clear. A work of conceptual art was released with the announcement, depicting the forces of Sauron surrounding Minas Tirith. Although the announcement says the game will be based on the books of J.R.R. Tolkien, New Line Cinema is one of the licensees, so the game will presumably take place in the continuity of the films. This seems to be the third LOTR game currently in development, following Daedalic Entertainment's "The Lord of the Rings: Gollum" and Amazon Game Studios' untitled MMO game.

This seems to be the third LOTR game currently in development, following Daedalic Entertainment's "The Lord of the Rings: Gollum" and Amazon Game Studios' untitled MMO game. And in tabletop games, Free League Publishing/Fria Ligan is developing new editions of The One Ring Roleplaying Game and the D&D 5E setting that is based on it, though there hasn't been much news since March.
