Didn't realise you had Aldi - they sell good stuff.

Arranging and sewing up is quite fun; squares knitted by one member of the group always co-ordinate well, so are a pleasure to put together, but donated squares come in all sorts of colours - and sizes, come to that! It can be a challenge. We get there in the end, though. The more bizarre selections can go to the local cat rescue; cats don't mind jarring colour schemes!

I'm currently sitting with one foot elevated, swollen and a lurid bruise covering a good half its upper surface, after a silly little accident yesterday. I've probably sprained something - I'll get it looked at tomorrow. This when we're about to go on an epic kayaking odyssey! While that's more about arms than feet, I still need to be able to get in and out, carry the kayak, etc (and we'd planned some walks as well). I'd really appreciate prayers and good thoughts from my lovely TORn friends. I'm beginning to think I"m a mite accident-prone :)

If we *have* to get injured, couldn't we keep it to the winter months when it's easy to encourage us to stay inside anyway? *sends healing vibes northward*

LOL! We still have the quilt squares that came with some of our cats. They're perfect for the bottom of the cat carrier, for the vet trips!

I'm so sorry. Stuff like that happens so fast! You're equally fast in healing, so here's hoping you're back on BOTH feet immediately... if not sooner! Your kayak trips are always soul-filling and such a fun time. But I'm weird when something like this happens, or other thing that stop us on our plans... that there's a reason for it that has probably kept us from something bigger happening. It helps me, in those cases, to deal with the disappointment if I figure it's saved me from a nasty episode of some kind. Hang in there!

For followers of rugby: the physio tells me it's the same bone Richie McCaw broke. Unlike him, I don't plan to play in the Rugby World Cup - not till it's healed, anyway. Then we'll see. But I can still go on our kayaking adventure! It'll be a bit more complicated, but still doable. So it could all be a lot worse. Thanks for the prayers and kind thoughts, everyone.

I looked it up and yup, it's the same bone I broke years ago -- stepping out of bed* in the middle of the night! Rolled my foot and snap! I've heard so many stories since from people who've done the same thing. One guy said he just stepped to one side to field a baseball and . . . snap! It's so easy to do. But I liked the stranger who took one look at my crutches and moonboot and said "don't tell me: you were hang-gliding in Antarctica." SUCH a much better story! It's a slow-healing injury. My advice is to not put weight on it at all and WEAR THE BOOT. The boot is your friend. No, you can't wear it in the kayak, but wear it everywhere else. I was lucky; I healed in four months. (But could predict weather changes for a year or more after.) and remember, this too shall pass. i was hiking - with the moonboot on - a month later. * in Ellen Degeneres's house! No lie: she bought it from a friend, and I broke my foot while visiting the friend a year or two before that.
I am a dreamer of words, of written words. I think I am reading; a word stops me. I leave the page. The syllables of the words begin to move around … The words take on other meanings as if they had the right to be young. -- Gaston Bachelard * * * * * * * * * * NARF and member of Deplorable Cultus since 1967 my blog: https://jodybower.com/myths-archetypes-in-film/

Yes, mine was the result of just such a small thing: my foot landed on the edge of a doormat and twisted that tiny amount, but that was enough to go "snap". As well as the moonboot, the physio gave me a lightweight but still supportive boot that I *might* be able to wear in the kayak - I'll certainly give it a try. If that doesn't work, I do have a good, solid pair of walking sandals. And the rest of the time it'll be moonboot. It's not the most comfortable footwear at this time of year, but obviously worth it.

That's because unlike Richie I haven't felt obliged to play through the pain! I was worried it might mean a plaster cast, which would have put paid to the kayaking, but that's not the case, thank goodness.
