It's a hurried reading thread! Can't Post

Sorry, 'sibs, I have extremely distracting things happening at the moment, so I'll just throw in a couple of quick comments.

I'm almost finished with the unabridged audio of LotR, having arrived at the Scouring of the Shire. Still the best book ever written, IMHO. Heart

On paper I read The Shadow of Death by Jane Willan, featuring an Anglican nun in a contemporary (very contemporary) convent in Wales. Sister Agatha wants to be a mystery writer but finds herself involved in a real-life murder. The tone is light and serious at the same time. While I could quibble over one or two aspects of the plot, I enjoyed the story and will look for the sequel.

What have you been reading?

Where now the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing?
Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harpstring, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow....

Moonbound and Fun Home [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Lily! Glad you still have time to read amongst the distractions. I picked up this fantastic graphic-novel style account of the Apollo space program. I generally do not care for that genre, but enjoyed it so well that I didnít hesitate to pick up Fun Home the next time I visited the library. Hope to read it this weekend.

I'm starting Shortest Way Home [In reply to] Can't Post

by Pete Buttigieg. He's fascinating to me. I don't mean politically or in a "this is who I'm voting for way" but as a character in the world story. I'm interested to see what his writing style is like as compared to his speeches and off-the-cuff speaking style.
